Abstract
A letter to Edward Hitchcock in which John White Webster congratulates Hitchcock on his appointment as professor of chemistry at Amherst College and asks him whether he would be interested in a chemistry textbook based on William Thomas Brande's Manual of Chemistry. Webster explains that he wants to gauge interest from many professors before spending the money on having such a textbook printed.
