Abstract
Sermon notes by Edward Hitchcock for a sermon delivered at Amherst College on June 1, 1837. Hitchcock discusses what he considers a "golden rule" for Christian living, which is to do everything for the glory of God. He claims that though this is a general rule it is better than more specific rules because it requires thought and devoting one's spirit to God. Hitchcock then lists different areas that this rule should be applied to, including the pursuit of study, one's physical nature, interactions between people, and the general way that people dress, live, and entertain themselves. He ends with a list of five remarks about the rule and Christian adherence to it. 1 Corinthians 10:31 is quoted.
