Abstract
A manuscript draft by Edward Hitchcock of a lecture included in his work "The Religion of Geology and its Connected Sciences." This lecture, "The Universe a Vast Sounding and Picture Gallery" was published in the final work as the twelfth lecture, "The Telegraphic System of the Universe." Hitchcock discusses the relationship between religion and geology while also discussing the relationship between religion and science in general. This chapter focuses on the idea that mankind's actions and words make an impression on the universe, which Hitchcock attempts to prove with the principles of science.
