About Amherst College Digital Collections

Amherst College Digital Collections (ACDC) began as a collaboration between the Robert Frost Library and Information Technology Services on a platform developed in-house on Fedora. In 2023, ACDC migrated to the open-source Archipelago platform. This repository holds digitized photographs, manuscripts, books, and other media from the Archives & Special Collections..

Many departments in the Library make ACDC possible. Archives & Special Collections, the Digital Initiatives & Web Services Department, and Collection Management all play a role in identifying materials for digitization, imaging materials, providing metadata, and uploading materials into ACDC. The Digital Initiatives & Web Services Department website includes more information about our metadata and digitization practices.

ACDC continues to grow. A great deal of additional content from our archival collections is being added to the system on an ongoing basis. Plans for further development include adding oral histories and creating data visualization, geographic, and timeline-based interfaces.
