Included in the booklet are mentions of "Book No. 1" and "Book No. 2," presumably other account books, and there are notes in which Vaill clarifies certain details in those books with information included in this booklet. Details provided include donor names, amounts of subscriptions, notes on donors or their subscriptions such as when he can call on a subscriber again, and often the residence of donors. In a note on the back of the booklet Vaill states that there is little hope of making up their subscription fund unless the times become more favorable. The information in the booklet likely pertains to the one hundred thousand dollar subscription fund. Joseph Vaill memorandum with details regarding subscribers to Amherst College funds, 1841-1844 Charity Fund register and records book, 1818-1840 Charity Fund (Amherst, Mass.) A Charity Fund administrative records book that contains an historical overview of the establishment of the Fund and its relation to the founding of Amherst College, a copy of the Charity Fund's 1818 Constitution and System of Bylaws, a schedule of Charity Fund subscribers from May 1818 to May 1819, registers titled "State of the original Fund," "Property of the fund secured by real estate with interest to be paid annually," "List of Bonds, Notes, and other securities given as substitutes for a subscription and Bond of Fifteen Thousand dollars executed to the Trustees of Amherst Academy by David Parsons and others, as part of the Fifty Thousand dollar fund of the Collegiate Institution," and "List of Notes, Bonds, etc. belonging to the Charity of Amherst College," a register of property in real estate dated August 23, 1833, a register of "Notes secured by Mortgage, Real estate, and Bank stock," and a final register labeled "Charity Fund of Amherst College" and dated August 24, 1840 with subscriptions organized into categories of real estate, bank stock, notes secured by mortgage, or notes resting on personal security. Charity Fund register and records book, 1818-1840 Memoranda relating to beneficiaries of the Charity Fund Charity Fund (Amherst, Mass.) A notebook with records of Charity Fund beneficiaries from the Class of 1836 to the Class of 1878. The first page of the notebook includes a note stating that the records of disbursements from the Fund prior to the Class of 1836 were destroyed in the fire involving the buildings where Phoenix Row stands. The records included in the book are labeled by class year and provide tables with columns for the names of beneficiaries along with amounts (presumably the amount of financial aid they received from the Charity Fund), their occupation, year of death, and any additional remarks. The extent of information provided for each beneficiary varies, but names and amounts are always included. Memoranda relating to beneficiaries of the Charity Fund Volume of records kept by John Leland regarding Amherst College finances and funds, 1821-1835 Leland, John, 1807-1864 A bound volume containing financial records of John Leland, Treasurer of the College, 1820-1835 and Financier of the Charity Fund, 1826-1833. The book includes loosely inserted booklets along with an account book and bound letters, reports, expense records, and fund subscription registers all pertaining to Amherst College finances. John Leland is presumed primarily responsible for the content, though Samuel F. Dickinson, John J. Jones, Rufus Graves, and Sally Ames (on behalf of a Mite Society) are contributors to individual documents in the volume. Also included is a letter dated 1888 from George S. Cheney to Mr. Seelye (presumably Julius Hawley Seelye) regarding a booklet of subscription records from Boston subscribers. Subscription registers included may pertain to the Charity Fund or the subscription fund commonly called the Thirty Thousand Dollar Subscription. The compiled records were bound together at an unknown later date "at the expense of Frank W. Stearns." Volume of records kept by John Leland regarding Amherst College finances and funds, 1821-1835 Amherst Academy financial ledger Amherst Academy (Amherst, Mass.) A financial ledger listing payments received, names of payers, balances, investments, expenses, loans, and transactions pertaining to Amherst Academy. The first 32 pages of the book include accounts with page headings noting the individual treasurers including L. Boltwood (Lucius Boltwood), Ithamar F. Conkey, Moses B. Greene, and John S. Adams. Subsequent pages include accounts with page headings of Amherst Academy Fund or Memoranda. In the latter section of the ledger are occasional notes by auditors W.C. Esty or S.C. Carter stating that the foregoing accounts of the treasurer have been examined and found correct. Also included with this item is an additional folded document that was placed inside the ledger which lists accounts relating to 1892 and 1894 Amherst Academy finances. Amherst Academy financial ledger Prospect City Savings Bank depositors book for Arthur Nelson Nelson, Arthur W., 1880-1958 A deposit book belonging to (and presumably created by) Arthur Nelson for the fictitious Prospect City Savings Bank in Prospect City. The book contains fabricated transactions amounting to thousands of dollars and reflects the Nelson brothers' understanding of practical and financial matters. Nearly all of these pages at the beginning are crossed out. Hitchcock re-used the book by turning it upside down and starting at the back to record an account of expenses Amherst College incurred from building the Nineveh Gallery. Expenses include travel, meals, lodgings, bricks, stones, and payments to specific people, among others.
