The drawing is unsigned but is very similar to another signed by Arthur Nelson and it has been inferred that Arthur drew this one as well. Drawing of red flowers in yellow window Nelson brothers booklet of flags The Nelson brothers created three booklets with labeled color drawings of flags from their imaginary world. This volume features the flags of various yacht clubs and steamship lines, as well as flags for specific ships from merchant and battle fleets. Initials under the drawings appear to indicate the geographic area associated with the flag. Nelson brothers booklet of flags Drawing with red flowers and blue table Nelson, Arthur W., 1880-1958 This still life with a pot of red flowers on a windowsill, a blue table and chair, and a bird in a cage is one of several done on the back of advertisements for Ayer's Pills, a cure for bilious disorders sold by Farr and Tandy of Goshen, New Hampshire, where the Nelson brothers lived. The drawing is unsigned but is very similar to another signed by Arthur Nelson and it has been inferred that Arthur drew this one as well. This might have been created by Arthur Nelson who is known to have drawn other pictures of flowers in this collection. Drawing of pink flowers Sketches of saws and log dogs Two drawings, both with front and back views, of a saw and a log dog. These unattributed drawings by one of the Nelson brothers reveal their interest in tools and technology, as well as their attention to detail when sketching their surroundings. Sketches of saws and log dogs Nelson brothers booklet of flags The Nelson brothers created three booklets with labeled color drawings of flags from their imaginary world. The flags in this volume are labeled only with initials, making it hard to say with precision which continent, island, fleet or other part of their imaginary world the flags are meant to represent. Using a variety of symbols and formats, the Nelson brothers have created a series of flags that serve as interesting visual aids for understanding their imaginary world. Nelson brothers booklet of flags Drawings of tropical landscape and croquet game Two unattributed drawings depicting a tropical landscape with palm trees and a well-dressed man playing croquet. It is unclear which of the Nelson brothers drew these scenes. Drawings of tropical landscape and croquet game Drawings of boats Two unattributed drawings done on opposite sides of an envelope. Drawings of boats Sketch of house and barn Nelson, Elmer H., 1878-1930 This sketch of a house and barn was done in pencil on the back of a church schedule of events. Written on this schedule is "Elmer 10," suggesting Elmer Nelson might have drawn the picture when he was ten years old. Sketch of house and barn Drawings of flags Two versions of a colored flag with the caption "B.C. standard," which likely refers to the fictitious Big Continent created by the Nelson brothers. The completed version features Ethan Allen who commanded Big Continent. Ethan Allen was the name often used by Walter Nelson, the youngest brother, in the stories of their imaginary world. It is unclear which of the Nelson brothers created the drawings. Drawings of flags Folded book depicting scenes of a Nelson brothers continent Seven scenes on separate panels in a folded book depicting a fictional land created by one of the Nelson brothers. Scenes include, Broad River, Goose Lake, a base and tower, The High Cliffs, ocean vessels, an unnamed city and a salt grotto. Each panel includes descriptive text explaining the scene. This booklet is the only one of the three with something approximating a title on the cover. The flags in this volume are the only ones set against background images.
