There are several handwritten notes on the item; one of which includes an edit crossing through the name Joseph K. Tucker and including G.R. Birch. Included is a compilation of rules, principles, and suggestions to remind members of missions of their duties and privileges and to serve as a reference. Topics addressed vary, ranging from finances to the children of missionaries. The Bible and Tract Societies, the Missionary Herald, Dayspring, and the Cabinet at the Missionary House are all mentioned. Treat letter to Justin Perkins, 1847 October 12 Anderson, Rufus, 1796-1880 A printed circular letter addressed to Justin Perkins in which Rufus Anderson, David Greene, and Selah B. Treat write on behalf of the Prudential Committee of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. They write regarding financial matters such as receipts, prospects, and donations. Included are "things of common interest to be communicated to all the missions," including recent resolutions passed by the Prudential Committee. Also included is a request for more correspondence from the missionaries regarding their children when they wish to send them to the United States or when they have actually sent them. Mentioned in the letter are the American Tract Society, the Bible and Tract Societies, the Missionary Herald, and the London Missionary Society. Fiske presents the circular to Mixter and asks that he donate to the fund noted, especially as Mixter has been favored with a fortune. The circular is dated October 1839 and is written by a Committee of the Trustees of Amherst College: Heman Humphrey, William B. Banister, Samuel T. Armstrong, William B. Calhoun, and George Grennell. In the circular, the Committee discusses the financial history of the College including the Charity Fund. They explain current debts and financial needs and ask for aid, noting that the Trustees are attempting to raise a sum of one hundred thousand dollars. In the handwritten letter, Vaill appeals to Doane specifically as a man of wealth and Christian benevolence and asks him to peruse the included documents and then favor Vaill with a personal interview. In the printed form letter, Joseph Vaill writes as the appointed General Agent of Amherst College and asks recipients to donate to the College by subscription. The form letter is dated October 1, 1841 but a handwritten edit dates it as October 1, 1842. A circular promoting Amherst Academy in Massachusetts which includes a statement of recent improvements at the school, information on tuition and room and board, and testimonials from Heman Humphrey, Edward Hitchcock, and Austin Dickinson regarding Amherst Academy and associated preceptors. Circular for Amherst Academy, 1827 Simeon Colton circular for Amherst Academy, 1832 June Colton, Simeon, 1785-1868 A circular with content written by Simeon Colton in which he provides a statement on the situation of Amherst Academy, including the names of members of the board of trustees and details on the location, curriculum, facilities, books, schedule, and fees of the school. Colton also writes that he is taking this opportunity to make an appeal to any who may be willing to encourage the school. He concludes by stating that any who should wish to know more about the school are referred to the trustees of the school, the faculty of Amherst College, or any of a number of specifically named persons.
