A volume containing 11 pamphlets "bound at the expense of Mr. Frank W. Stearns." An unattributed typed table of contents is included at the beginning of the volume and there are unattributed handwritten notes on the pamphlets. The pamphlets primarily pertain to the controversy regarding the suggested removal of Williams College from Williamstown, Massachusetts, the proposed chartering of the Collegiate Institution, or the Charity Fund. The pamphlets contain contributions from various individuals, including: Lucius Boltwood, John Morton Greene, Rowland Ayres, Christopher Cushing, Joseph Gowing Kendall, Nathaniel Smith, John Fiske, Hezekiah W. Strong, J.E. Trask, Rufus Graves, Paul Willard, Daniel Davis, Joseph E. Sprague, John Leland, Sherman Leland, Redford Webster, and Zephaniah Swift Moore. A pamphlet of the laws of Amherst Academy for students which includes articles regarding the following: admission; devotional exercises; instruction and examinations; damages and repairs, price of tuition; misdemeanors, crimes, and punishments. An unattributed handwritten note in pencil on the first page indicates that this copy was for John L. Alexander, a student of Amherst Academy. Alexander's signature can be seen below the section on admission in the pamphlet, signifying that he promises to observe all the laws and regulations made by the government for the students of the academy. Pamphlet of extracts from several documents created as an appendix to a report made by a Massachusetts legislative committee on the Amherst Collegiate Institution. The sections of the pamphlet are labeled A-F and include copies of A Constitution and System of By-Laws of the Charity Fund from May 23, 1818, the Subscription for the Collegiate Charity Institution in Amherst, Massachusetts from June 28, 1822, also called the Thirty Thousand Dollar Subscription, a blank Charity Fund subscription form, the July 6, 1819 Guaranty Bond of David Parsons, Jarib White, Calvin Merrill, Enos Baker, John Leland, Samuel Fowler Dickinson, Elijah Boltwood, Hezekiah Wright Strong, and Joseph Church which notes their obligation of a sum of fifteen thousand dollars for the founding of the Charity Fund, notes from Rufus Graves regarding Charity Fund subscriptions, J.E. Trask, Nathaniel Smith, and John Fisk note regarding subscriptions to the Thirty Thousand Dollar Subscription made by minors and females, and the Zephaniah Swift Moore and Trustees of Williams College request that Williams College be moved to Northampton, Massachusetts and legislative notes on the request. The Constitution and system of by-laws: of the charitable fund of Amherst College, with an historical appendix Student petition for a band and proposed constitution, 1836 March Amherst College A student petition to the faculty asking that they be permitted to organize a society called the Amherst College Band under the proposed constitution provided with the petition. The petition is signed by five students: David Sewall Oliphant, Frederick Augustus Fiske, James Hovey, William Thomas Doubleday, and Jonathan Amos Fowler. An unattributed note on the document states "Petition for a College Band- March 1836- Not Granted." Student petition for a band and proposed constitution, 1836 March Copy of the constitution of the College Choir and faculty report to the choir, 1833 December 3 Bradbury, Elbridge The constitution of the College Choir as adopted on December 3, 1833. The document is noted as "a true copy" and signed by F.D.P. Stone, actuary. Below this attestation is the faculty committee's report to the College Choir in which the committee writes that the constitution is approved by the faculty, another copy is requested, and fifty dollars will be annually granted to the Choir as long as the constitution is strictly followed and a report is submitted to and approved by the College president. The names of E. Burgess and E. Bradbury are below this report and they are noted as the "Committee on the part of the Faculty." It has been determined that E. Burgess stands for Ebenezer Burgess and E. Bradbury stands for Elbridge Bradbury. The identity of F.D.P. Stone could not be determined.
