Stearns in which they state that Daniel Temple, Jr. (Daniel Herbert Temple), who wishes to apply to the A.E.S. for aid, is hereby recommended as they judge him worthy of that which the Society gives young men of promising talents in indigent circumstances who are preparing for the Christian ministry. The A.E.S. presumably refers to the American Education Society, and it has been determined that J.G.D. Stearns refers to Jesse George Davis Stearns. Stiles. Nelson states that Stiles is a young gentleman of an excellent character who has secured the esteem of teachers, pupils, and all who have known him during his time at Lincoln Academy. He comments on Stiles' uncommon diffidence and self distrust in regards to their potential effects on his examination. Porter writes that Bridgman journeys to the south on account of ill health and is recommended to the attentions of all lovers of good men. Sabin writes that Montague wishes to receive aid from the Society, and Sabin recommends him, stating that he thinks he is qualified in all respects to be aided by the Society. Emmons (Henry Vaughan Emmons) who offers himself for admission as a member of Amherst College. Ide writes regarding Emmons' father and grandfather, his religious and moral character, talents, and manners. He goes on to discuss the handling of Emmons' potential College expenses. Brinsmade (Horatio Nelson Brinsmade), a pastor in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Alden writes of Brinsmade's character, work as a minister, and church and states that he is the type of man that the institutions of the church ought to honor. He also notes that Brinsmade has served on the Board of Trustees of Williams College for several years, but the Board does not confer degrees on any of their own body. Amherst seeks Sydney's help in obtaining a grant of land for Colonel Fitch in recognition of his service to the government. Amherst indicates that a letter from Fitch is enclosed, but the enclosure is not present.
