S.D. Stoddard letter to Justin Perkins in which Stoddard writes that she often thinks of Perkins in his loneliness but she is sure that he is happy in laboring for Christ. She thanks Perkins for telling her about Seir and the sacred spot on the hill. She goes on to discuss her and Miss Fisk's (Fiske's) visit to Mrs. (Charlotte Bass) Perkins. Stoddard says that her impression of Mrs. Perkins' situation is on the whole pleasanter since the visit. She mentions Dr. Tyler. She discusses a visit from Mrs. Stocking as Emily (Stocking) had to leave school for her health and writes about the Seminary (Mount Holyoke) and religious spirit there. She also provides brief updates on her stepdaughter Sarah.

H.S. Terry letter to Justin Perkins in which Terry writes regarding her marriage, her husband and his children, individuals from Amherst, the church and clergymen there, financial difficulties at Amherst College and contributions to the school, the last commencement at the College, its troublesome graduating class, personal insults to Professor Fiske by the class, revivals in the country, Miss Lyon's school in S. Hadley, marriages, births, deaths, her own church and Sabbath School in Hartford, a visit from the widow of Henry Lyman, and her own family. She also responds to information in a letter from Perkins. Individuals discussed in some detail in the letter include: Mrs. (Hepzibah) Eastman, Mr. Hunt, Mrs. Fiske, Mr. Sweetser, Miss Caldwell, and sister Boltwood. Many others are also mentioned.

Mary A. C. Ely letter to Justin Perkins in which Ely sends a few lines to Perkins while writing to her friends at Oroomiah (Urmia). She says that while at South Hadley (at Mount Holyoke Seminary) she heard interesting accounts of his missionary life and work. Ely mentions listening to Miss (Fidelia) Fiske and writes that rejoices to herself now be engaged in missionary work. She discusses a visit to her alma mater and the planned repairs there. She also mentions Miss Parmelee and hopes that Perkins will visit them at Bitles before he returns to America.

George Harrison Newhall letter to Orra White Hitchcock, 1849 March 6

Newhall, George Harrison, 1825-1853

A letter to Orra White Hitchcock in which George Harrison Newhall requests that Orra write to Mary Lyon on the behalf of Miss Harriett Frances Lindsey, an applicant to Mount Holyoke Seminary. Lindsey would eventually attend Mount Holyoke and also become Newhall's wife. Newhall also discusses a suggestion from Edward Hitchcock that Newhall preach in Deerfield, but he writes that he would prefer to stay in Prescott. Newhall calls Orra White "Mother Hitchcock" and signs the letter "Yr aff 'son' Harrison".

The appendix includes information on the admission process, the course of study, and terms, and other topics such as expenses and accommodations. Emily Hitchcock is listed as a senior and her father, Edward Hitchcock, is listed as a trustee.
