A.M.D. Tyler letter to Justin Perkins in which Tyler writes regarding Mrs. Perkins (Charlotte Bass Perkins). She notes her general health and writes about how Mrs. Perkins spends her time. She says that the Ladies (in the Asylum) would always find her a pleasant companion if it were not for her presentation on religious subjects in an unreasonable manner. Tyler discusses Mrs. Perkins' Christian life and how she wanted Tyler to infer that her leaving the Mission affected it. She also notes that Mrs. Perkins has never asked her if she saw Mr. Perkins there. After Mrs. Tyler's portion of the letter, John E. Tyler also provides brief updates on Mrs. Perkins' status.

P. O. (Philander O.) Powers letter to Justin Perkins in which Philander responds to a letter from Justin regarding the Nestorian Mission. He goes on to discuss his own mission, writing regarding two teachers from the Armenian school, the (Schneiders') experiments to determine if it was practicable to start a girls' school among the Greeks, and opposition to their mission by the Ar. (presumably Armenian) bishop. Philander also congratulates Justin on the birth of his boy. Following Philander's portion, H. G. (Harriet G.) Powers writes to Charlotte Bass Perkins, responding to news of the birth of the Perkinses' child and sharing news regarding others' pregnancies. She asks after Charlotte, remarks on Mr. Merrick going on his way, responds to the request from Mrs. Grant that she write, and shares news from Phillipston (Massachusetts).

H. B. (Hannah Bates) Smith letter to Charlotte Bass Perkins in which Hannah responds to a letter from Charlotte, remarking on the loss of Charlotte's dear babe. She provides updates on multiple individuals from Middlebury, Vermont. She also writes regarding the ordination of Mr. Robbins as a missionary to Sumatra and mentions other missionary friends. Subsequently, Henry Smith writes to Justin Perkins regarding his upcoming trip to Europe for his college (Marietta), the state of religion in the United States, the state of the A.B.C.F.M. (American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions), updates on individuals (other alumni of Andover Theological Seminary), and contributions to the college's Society of Inquiry from missionaries. In discussing the state of religion, Smith mentions the Presbyterian Church, the Taylorists, and slavery. In a postscript he writes at a later date, saying he sets sail tomorrow and congratulating the Perkinses on their treasure (a child).

Susan F. Shedd letter to Justin Perkins in which Shedd writes regarding her recent visit with Justin's wife (Charlotte Bass Perkins) at the Asylum. She notes that Charlotte was pleased to see her, that she updated Charlotte on news of their friends, and that they talked of the bible and prayer. She shares their conversation regarding Mr. Richardson. Shedd says she has never seen Charlotte so happy "yet she bears the same marks of insanity as when she entered." She notes Charlotte's response to her asking if Henry's departure would cause her sorrow and writes positively of Dr. Tyler. She also writes about a call from Dr. Young, her own health, and her wandering son.

E.C.A. Schneider letter to Charlotte Bass Perkins in which Schneider writes regarding her journey to Broosa (Bursa) and situation there. She describes their home and makes several negative remarks regarding the Turkish people. She writes of Sabbath practices and mentions Mr. Powers, Harriet (Powers), Mrs. Stone of the Bombay Mission, Mrs. and Mr. Goodell, and Mrs. Johnson. Schneider also mentions receiving letters from Miss Fisher, Miss Caldwell, and Miss Grant and shares news regarding multiple named former schoolmates (from Ipswich Female Seminary). She goes on to write regarding the fighting times in America between the "Colonizationists & Antis." She also mentions the journey of Adeline White.

E. Torrey letter to Charlotte Bass Perkins in which Torrey reminds Perkins that she and her husband promised them that they should have the pleasure of their company this summer. She expresses their love for the cause Perkins has espoused and requests that she come with her little babe and husband. She says Dr. Torrey joins her in this invitation. In a postscript, she mentions that the latest news from Dr. Grant was March 14, 1842 in Mosul.

J.P. Riach letter to Justin and Charlotte Bass Perkins in which Riach writes about two loads of potatoes for Merrick and Perkins. He goes on to address Charlotte alone, responding to a letter received from her. Riach writes regarding the prayer meetings of ladies at the Mission, mentioning Mrs. Holladay, Mrs. Grant, and Mrs. Stocking. He remarks on the information that Woodfall seems impressed with serious thoughts (about Christianity) and expresses his own desire to come and visit the Perkinses again. Riach also writes about Mrs. Nisbet's (childbirth) confinement. He remarks on his own health, the health of Willie, and Mr. Stocking's school.

He briefly mentions the funeral service of Abel Lawrence and goes on to write regarding Perkins returning to Persia without his wife (Charlotte Bass Perkins). He writes about his own experience of Mrs. Worcester being in the McLean Asylum. He notes that he has not seen her in years and writes about her case, times when he thought he might move her elsewhere, and the cost. He shares his thoughts on Perkins' decision (about whether he should go to Persia and leave his wife in the asylum) and mentions Br. Treat.

S.B. Treat letter to Justin Perkins in which Treat explains his delay in getting to see Mrs. P. (Charlotte Bass Perkins) and writes about his visit with Dr. Tyler and then her yesterday. He notes that she was moved to another part (of the Asylum) after some troubles in the matter of her singing in church and annoying other ladies. He provides updates on her health and writes about Mrs. P.'s opinions of her husband, saying that she questions his piety and fitness to be a missionary. He also discusses Dr. Tyler's feelings about how often he should visit and if Mr. Shedd can visit. He provides his opinion that such a retreat is the best place for Mrs. P.

He remarks on her health, says that this visit was more pleasant than the prior, and references her opinion of Mr. Perkins and Dr. Bass. He also mentions Miss Fiske, Dr. Tyler, Mr. Shedd, and Henry. Treat goes on to write about (American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions) business and finances, mentioning Mr. Gordon, Dr. Anderson, and Mr. Wood. He briefly discusses the (American Civil) war. He also updates Perkins on the statuses of Dr. Anderson and Dr. Young.

M. S. Rice letter to Justin and Charlotte Bass Perkins in which Rice shares that they (at the Nestorian Mission) have prayed for Justin to recover from illness and be able to return. She remarks on the "season of refreshing at Seir," mentioning Danick and his wife and Hormezd's wife and daughter. Rice shares the plans of Sara, Oshana's wife; Hormezd of Aliawa; and Segu of Geog Tapa to go labor in Koordistan (Kurdistan). Rice writes about Guyly, Shlemon's sister; little Gozel; Martha, the daughter of Yakob; Dr. Jospeh's Sara; and the hours of signing in their school (the Nestorian Female Seminary). In closing, she thanks the Perkinses for visiting her father at his death bed. Mar Sergis, Rakhil, Priest Yohannan's daughter, and Henry (Perkins) are also mentioned in the letter.

She says that "the Doctor hopes the excitement is over and she will be willing to do as he wishes, that is use self control and not indulge in actual scolding and other signs of ill temper." She writes about how their patients (in the Asylum) have needs like children in regards to self-control and about Mrs. Perkins not being able to see why under some circumstances religious subjects ought not to be mentioned and a cheerful story might be better than a religious book for other patients. She mentions Miss Dana going to another part of the house.

Russel goes on to write regarding affairs of the past year, including her marriage, subsequent travels, and updates on the Bass family. She also writes about a box of items they want to send the Perkinses, money collected for the Nestorian Mission, nearby schools and societies, and changes in the sisters' circle of acquaintance, such as deaths and marriages. In the letter, Russel mentions numerous individuals, including multiple members of the Bass family.

J. P. Riach letter to Charlotte Bass and Justin Perkins in which Riach explains that since his return he has been busy reading and writing letters to Tehran. He mentions Southgate and Merrick and writes regarding Samuel, of whom he has low opinions. Riach goes on to discuss the combination of merchants here (in Tabriz) to prevent the sale of European goods by Europeans, mentioning Mons. Ralli. In relation to this, he says that if the Shah is off in Herat and does not return, some disaster may be the result. Riach also writes that he hears nothing about the Commercial Treaty and he has asked leave of McNeill to go to Joolamerk.

She says that she will be absent for a few weeks as she is leaving for Ohio and writes about her last visit with Mrs. Perkins, Mrs. Perkins' companion Miss Dana, Mrs. Perkins' attendants, and the nurses (at the Asylum). She notes that Mrs. Perkins received a package. In a postscript, J.E.T. (John E. Tyler) provides a brief update on Mrs. Perkins, saying that she "has her good days and her bad ones."

She discusses the health of Sister Schneider, mentions the birth of Eliza Howe (Schneider), remarks on reinforcements at Charlotte's station and Charlotte's health, comments on little Henry Martin's fall, discusses the deaths of the Adgers' children, and mentions Mr. Goodell's recent visit. Each Powers sends regards to several individuals.

She writes regarding her arrival at Broosa (Bursa), her husband's and her own health, their accommodations, the trials of Perkins, their prayers for the Perkinses, faith, and yesterday's religious service.

She writes about the first case in which cattle were taken and then notes the second case in which they had attacked a mussulman (Muslim) man. She mentions Deacon Aslans. Judith goes on to write regarding the meeting Ma (Charlotte Bass Perkins) had with the women of Seir. She notes the illness of Ansop and the treatment Mr. Cochran gave her. She also remarks on the weather, sending Aunt Sarah a letter, and someone preparing his garden. In a postscript, C.B.P. (Charlotte) also briefly writes to Justin.

Susan F. Shedd letter to Justin Perkins in which Shedd updates Perkins on his wife (Charlotte Bass Perkins) based on information she's received from Dr. Tyler at the Asylum. She notes Charlotte's appetite, general health, excitement, and constant church attendance. She shares a story about Charlotte's loud singing in church. She also relays Mrs. Perkins' responses to Dr. Tyler asking how long since she entertained her present feelings in regard to her husband and how long since she spoke of it, noting that in answering the latter she unconsciously dated it back to the death of Judith (Grant Perkins). Shedd says she thinks Charlotte is happier there (at the asylum) than she would be elsewhere, mentions Henry (Perkins), notes that they have moved, shares that her brother expects to be married on the 20th, and says her class want their next contribution to go to Justin's mission.
