Horatio Southgate letter to Justin Perkins in which Southgate remarks on the many changes that have occurred since they used to correspond about Southgate's going into Persia. He says he will send Perkins a copy of his book and writes about Perkins' Mission. He remarks that the more he sees of these Christians, the more he feels they must be reformed in their own Churches. He shares his wishes that all, of any denomination, were united in preventing schisms. Southgate responds to Perkins' thoughts of visiting Constantinople, saying he will not be there as he expects to leave for Mesopotamia to see what can be done among the Jacobites. He notes that Mr. Brown was meant to accompany him but has disappointed him again. Southgate also writes of Perkins' importance to the Nestorian Mission.

George Washburn letter to Justin Perkins in which Washburn shares that he learned from a telegraph that there is money on the way from England for Perkins to be used for the benefit of the famine stricken Nestorians. He says he has also received from Dr. Pfander of the Church Missionary Society money for the same purpose.

Geo. W. Wood letter to Justin Perkins in which Wood responds to a letter from Perkins with news of his health and return to the field of his labor. He sympathizes with Perkins regarding his loneliness and the breaking up of his family circle. He shares brief updates on the mission in Constantinople and writes about his visits to England, Scotland, and Ireland, mentioning multiple individuals. He also notes what was said and not said by Lord Shaftesbury in regards to the (American Civil) War and notes the death of Sir Culling Eardley.

H. Southgate letter to Justin Perkins in which Southgate explains the changes to his plans since he learned that Mr. Brown will not arrive until spring. He notes that due to the delay they will likely be unable to visit Ooromiah (Urmia). He says that the American Bible Society has made an appropriation to his mission for Bibles in Eastern languages and asks Perkins several questions about his carrying Persian Testaments into Persia and their distribution. He also asks about Mr. Merrick's similar appropriation. Southgate goes on to mention Mr. Holliday (Holladay) and Mr. Brown and his wife. He asks if he can bring anything into Persia for Perkins. In closing, he briefly references the patriarchal circular against missionaries and "missionary-ism," and in a postscript he discusses a package of papers and pamphlets he will forward.

W. G. Schauffler letter to Asahel Grant and Justin Perkins in which Schauffler acknowledges the receipt of their letters and says he is at the moment too unwell to write and Mrs. S. is too busy. He mentions that someone and his family are staying with them until their house is disinfected of the plague. He discusses his own health and briefly notes their trials by the plague and persecution against their schools.

D. Temple letter to Justin Perkins in which Temple responds to a letter from Perkins. He remarks on Perkins' encouraging reception among the Nestorians and says that they will probably find that the people in these countries love them more in word than in deed. He writes about the opposition to his mission's schools and books on part of the Greek ecclesiastics, mentioning the Patriarch, and Ecclesiastical Committee, and brother King. He writes about Biblical examples that can aid them in their mode of dealing with opposition and provides brief updates on the mission and its missionaries. On the last page, Goodell writes to Perkins and remarks on the news of the birth of his child.

E. C. A. S. (Eliza Cheney Abbott Schneider) letter to Charlotte Bass Perkins in which Schneider responds to a letter from Perkins, remarking on Perkins' health and journey. She writes that all are sick and discusses the states of each mission member. Schneider continues the letter on Tuesday, saying that they depart for Broosa (Bursa) soon. She writes regarding the local situation in Broosa and her hopes for her new home and her own new standard of piety. Numerous individuals are mentioned directly in the letter, including Mr. Paspati, Hohanes (Hohannes), Mrs. Goodell, Mrs. Dwight, Mrs. Johnson and her husband, Messrs. Goodell and Dwight, Mrs. Schauffler and her husband, Mr. Schneider, Mrs. Brown, and the Commodore (Porter). In an additional note, she mentions a fire in Constantinople that destroyed seventy or eighty houses.

Elias Riggs letter to Justin Perkins in which Riggs says that "having joined the fraternity of bearded men, I have lately had a new photograph taken," a copy of which he is enclosing. He writes that he is now alone as Mrs. Riggs left for the United States to accompany their sons James and Charles who are going to pursue their studies. He writes further on that topic, providing updates on their other son Edward as well. Riggs notes when they left and that Clara Hamlin, Brother Parsons' two daughters, and Miss Proctor left with them. He says that he is boarding with Mr. and Mrs. Baldwin and that he anticipates Dr. Pratt leaving, mentioning Mr. Trowbridge. Riggs writes about their recent annual meeting and his current work on the Bulgarian Scripture and the Armenian and Armeno-Turkish translations. The enclosure noted no longer accompanies this letter.

H. Southgate letter to Justin Perkins in which Southgate writes that he has arrived in Constantinople as a missionary of the Epis. Church of America for the purpose of exploration, principally in Persia. He asks Perkins about the opportunities for studying Turkish in Northern Persia. He says that he brought a certificate of Life Directorship for Dr. Grant. Southgate also writes about the troubles in Syra (Syros), mentioning Mr. Hildner, Mrs. Robertson, and Dr. Robertson.

He shares news, including that all six of his children and their three servants had the measles and are recovered, that Mr. and Mrs. Jackson have had a daughter, that Mr. Hallock and Mr. Brewer have returned to their families, and that in Greece, Smyrna (İzmir), and Broosa (Bursa) there has been opposition to schools from the priesthood. In closing, he discusses the importance of praying for their missions and the rulers of countries.

Goodell (William Goodell) letter to Justin Perkins in which Abigail thanks Perkins for the gift and writes regarding Perkins' book and Mrs. Mason's book that is in "connexion with Mrs. MacLeod Wylie's Work on The Burman Mission." She mentions Mrs. Knapp's house, discusses "your Nestorian" who is living with them as a cook, and notes that Miss Beech is leaving for America. In William's portion of the letter, he shares their sympathies over the separation of Perkins from his wife and son. He also writes regarding his mission's daily prayer meetings, a failed attempt to get up a system of female visitation there, and the status of Reverend Dr. Wood.

Dwight letter to Justin Perkins and Asahel Grant in which Dwight responds to communications from Perkins and Grant and says that he will attend to their directions in regard to the Syriac Scriptures and he will translate their letter to someone with an illegible name. He writes that he will also attend to Grant's requests. Dwight comments on information provided by Grant and Perkins, discussing the Nestorian people and the missionaries' plans. He also shares news of his own mission, its schools, and other missionaries, mentioning Mr. Goodell and Mr. Schneider. Dwight notes that a reverend from Boston is there after wearing himself out pleading for the temperance cause.

He says that they will come to Constantinople from Smyrna (İzmir) and stay in his house, in the room the Jacksons are vacating. Goodell shares news of the American Legation members in Turkey: Mr. Brown, Mr. Porter, and the Commodore, and he updates Perkins on their (mission) high school and the Girls' School.

Dwight letter to Justin Perkins in which Dwight writes that he feels Perkins has neglected them and he thinks it is best for them to keep up at least some occasional correspondence with one another. Dwight goes on to discuss his mission's schools and several individuals. He mentions the high school, the Greek girl's school in Pera, Baron Senekerim, Mr. Jackson, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Brown, Com. (Commodore) Porter, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith in Smyrna (İzmir). He passes on remarks from Mr. McNeill regarding Mrs. Perkins' condition.

Goodell letter to Justin Perkins in which Goodell responds to a letter from Perkins, providing reasons why he thinks Perkins' determination to send to Constantinople for as few things as possible is a good one. He writes regarding how busy Mrs. (Abigail) Goodell is kept in watching all of their children. He also discusses Mr. (Daniel) Temple who is now convalescent and sister (Eliza Cheney Abbott) Schneider who has typhus fever and gangrene. He notes that he baptized the Schaufflers' baby Henry Albert and discusses Hohannes at Hass Köy whose college prospers and who has married. Goodell says that his own mission is doing well financially and then continues at a later date, saying that their sister at Broosa (Schneider) still lives. He asks if Dr. Grant wants their chemical apparatus.

He explains that he had to suddenly leave Boston for New York and so did not see Mrs. Perkins' sister Mrs. Cozzens or Mr. Cozzens. He also writes of a conversation on a steamboat with one of Justin Perkins' cousins, of interviewing the teacher Mrs. Cook (presumably Harriet B. Cooke), and of the trials the Perkinses have undergone.

She goes on to discuss the murder of (Henry) Lyman and (Samuel) Munson, scarlet fever among the children there, the health of other members of the mission, and her children John White, Harrison, and William. She also writes about their upcoming plans and about the current status and plans of other missionaries. Multiple missionaries of the mission in Constantinople are mentioned by name.

S.H. Calhoun (Simeon H. Calhoun) letter to Justin Perkins in which Calhoun says that he has come to this part of the world on behalf of the American Bible Society. He writes that he will probably be in Smyrna and tells Perkins to let him know if he should need Scriptures for distribution. He writes of the Society's willingness to pay for the translation and publication of the Scriptures where needed, asking questions pertaining to the Nestorian language and Bible needs. Calhoun also notes when he departed from Massachusetts and remarks on what the current state was there before he left, mentioning local interest in the Nestorian Mission.
