A recent battle at Chattanooga, Tennessee (the Chattanooga Campaign), General Grant (Ulysses S. Grant), General Rosecrans (William S. Rosecrans), General Thomas (George Henry Thomas), and "Rebel Bragg" (Braxton Bragg), the draft, and the Battle of Gettysburg are all mentioned. Among the individuals discussed are Geo, Charlie Underwood, and Aunt Mead (Julia Perkins Mead). This letter may have been written by Susan M. Lang Perkins.

A letter from Sarah (presumably Sarah Bass Crehore) to Justin Perkins in which she writes of her unsuccessful attempt to see Charlotte (Charlotte Bass Perkins). She writes that Dr. Tyler would not let her see Charlotte. She shares news of Charlotte's health and discusses the health of herself, her family, and Middlebury friends. She also remarks on the state of the country, the weather, and Henry (presumably Henry Martyn Perkins).

S.F.L. (Susan Freeman Labaree) letter to Justin Perkins in which the sender responds to a letter from Perkins and mentions that she trusts Perkins is now at Seir. She writes regarding Henry (Martyn Perkins) commenting on his growth, success in his studies, and his religious welfare. She also writes regarding the health of Mrs. Perkins (Charlotte Bass Perkins), saying that it is much the same and sad. Labaree mentions "our dear Benja," missionary Benjamin Labaree.

S.F.L. (Susan Freeman Labaree) letter to Justin Perkins in which Labaree writes regarding the status of Perkins' son Henry, commenting on his sense of Christian responsibility; his social circle and interest in women; and his academic performance at college (Middlebury College). She also writes of Henry's relationship with his mother (Charlotte Bass Perkins), the status of Mrs. Perkins, and the possibility of Mrs. Perkins returning to Justin in Persia after she leaves the asylum. Labaree inquires after and comments on "our dear Benja," Benjamin Labaree.

A letter from Joseph to Justin Perkins in which Joseph responds to notes from Perkins which remind him of the Apostle Paul and explains that he would like to attend meetings in the city and at Seir but there have been impediments. Joseph goes on to write of his mother and Isaac, who have both been ill, and he remarks on the "almost-Christians" Perkins had mentioned. He also mentions that Priest Seggo has begun to preach to families.

A letter from Eliza (presumed to be Eliza Cheney Abbott Schneider) to Charlotte Bass Perkins in which Eliza writes so that Perkins may have words to remember her by once they have "exchanged the last word, the last pressure of the hand, and the last look!" Eliza shares her thoughts on her own experiences and what Perkins will face as the wife of a missionary, especially in regards to loneliness. She quotes the New Testament of the Bible several times.

A letter from an unidentified correspondent addressed to Justin Perkins in which the sender writes to invite Perkins and "the bishop" (likely Mar Yohannan) to an annual meeting of the Half Orphan Society. The sender also writes about being called on by Dr. Wainwright who said he had invited Perkins and his party to meet "some of our Episcopal friends." The sender confirms they will attend this. In closing, the sender mentions Perkins' little one and the sender's own girls. The signature on this document is illegible and the identity of the author could not be determined.

They also note that one work that is missing belongs to Mr. Breath, and the sender will return it as well.

Turkish Missions' Aid Society

A printed notice of January 14th and 15th public meetings of the Turkish Missions Aid Society at which it is stated that the President of the Society, the Earl of Shaftesbury (Anthony Ashley-Cooper), the Chairman of the Bath Branch, Reverend Charles Kemble, and the missionary to the Nestorians, Dr. Perkins (Justin Perkins), will be speaking. There are several handwritten notes on the item; one of which includes an edit crossing through the name Joseph K. Tucker and including G.R. Birch.

A portion of a letter from an unidentified correspondent presumably to Justin Perkins in which the sender mentions the Russian intrigues they read about, stating that they trust that since Charles Augustus Murray's arrival, the British influence in the council of the Shah will improve things. They also write regarding local Corpus Christi celebrations, their frustrations with these celebrations, Theodore Parker, Sylvester Judd, Unitarianism, the tyranny of public opinion in New England, the freedom and customs in Canada, the behavior and manner of young people in England and the United States, and their role as a teacher in a school. The sender of this letter was likely Hannah Willard Lyman.
