He discusses the prejudices of the people towards missionaries, writes of the excitement caused by the conversion of two Brahman, and discusses the effects of local governments on missions. He also writes of British expansion and current political tensions between China and England. Burgess updates Perkins on matters in America, mentioning the Presbyterian Church, the Jackson party, the "good old ship" Constitution, and the antislavery party. He also comments on Brother Merrick's marriage and Professor Tyler's engagement. On the last page of the letter, Mary Burgess addresses Charlotte Bass Perkins and Jerusha Stocking, writing of the daily life of the missionaries and their families at her station. She mentions Miss Farrar, Mr. and Mrs. French, Mr. Abbot, Mr. Ballentine, and Mr. Webster.

He also writes regarding Perkins' "teeth," saying that he fears he would not succeed as well as the watchmaker, but Yonan is confident that he can mend the broken part. Breath says he will let Yonan try. He goes on to write regarding the probability of a new rupture between England and Persia that the French are reporting.

He also writes regarding petitions respecting Priest Shimon (Mar Shimun), noting that Askar Khan sends more or less every day requesting that they use their influence to procure his liberation. He writes further regarding one such request recently received, mentioning "Yiyah Khan" (also referred to as Yahyah Khan). Breath shares his opinions and news regarding the treatment of Shimon.

I.G. Bliss (Isaac G. Bliss) letter to Justin Perkins in which Bliss says that he read aloud Mr. Cobb's letters to Mr. Labaree to his and Dr. Goodell's families last evening. He remarks on the news in the letters regarding "our national course" and the terrible riots in New York. He discusses news he has of the American Civil War as well, mentioning Fort Sumter, Morris Island, and the address to all Christians by the ministers of the confederacy. Bliss asks if Perkins has received the Bible yet and asks several other questions regarding it. He discusses the current state of his family and missionaries stationed at the Mission or who have visited.

E. Breath (Edward Breath) letter to Justin Perkins in which Breath writes that after considerable effort by Dr. (Wright), "the way is at last opened for our departure." He writes of "the bey" returning from his hunting and says that his departure for the country of Bader Khan Bey (also called Bedr Khan Beg) will be delayed. Breath writes of interactions with the Chief including a conversation about a Bible in which was written "presented to Mar Shimon, Patriarch of the Nestorians by the American Bible Society." He also writes of the Mudebbir. Breath goes on to discuss the status and treatment of Nestorians, the feeling between the people of different districts, and the desire for the return of the Patriarch. He says the people feel that the Patriarch is detained by the English Consul and the Pasha. Breath also writes of Julamerk and their travel plans.

Bliss remarks on the changed character of a young man he recently saw and explains why it has been so long to his last letter to Perkins. He also congratulates Perkins on the addition on Miss (Mary Susan) Rice to the Mission and mentions Mr. and Mrs. Cochran (Joseph Gallup Cochran and Deborah P. Cochran).

He explains how they are proceeding in the meantime and thanks Hallock for the tools that have been provided so far.

Asa Bullard letter to Justin Perkins in which Bullard writes as Secretary and General Agent of the Massachusetts Sabbath School Society. He discusses the Missionary Exercises section of the (Congregational) Visitor and explains that communications received from missionaries for publication must be short. He explains why Perkins may see his contributions abridged or divided between numbers, expresses his personal gratitude to Perkins, and notes the interest of local Christians in the Persian Mission. He also mentions the writer of their books on Missions and his suggestion to her to write a book on Persia.

He writes that she has a bad cold, but if she should get better in a few days they may visit Perkins in Seir. Breath goes on to discuss carelessness on the part of the printers in relation to corrections in the proof. He notes that he is always careful in this regard.

(Ebenezer) Burgess letter to Justin Perkins in which Burgess begins by writing on December 12, 1836 regarding his expectations for his missionary appointment and the recent tours of Mr. Arms on islands in Southeast Asia, mentioning Borneo and Sumatra. He writes further on January 1 and 2, 1837 regarding his recent missionary appointment to the "Indian archipelago" and his companion for life Miss Grant (Mary Grant Burgess). He remarks on the missionary spirit at Andover Theological Seminary and updates Perkins on changes at Amherst College. Burgess also writes of faith and spirituality. Mr Robbins, Mr. and Mrs. Stoddard, Mrs. Perkins, Mr. Tyler, Mr. Fiske, Professor Park, Dr. Skinner, and Mr. Anderson are all mentioned in the letter.

He requests Mar Johannan's acceptance of the volumes, saying that they will remind him of the interest felt in this country (the United States) for the diffusion of the Gospel among the Nestorians. He implores for evangelical triumph over the powers and works of darkness and quotes Christian religious texts several times.

He writes of Perkins' upcoming schedule, mentioning Mr. Henderson, Mr. Hughes, Brother Stoddard, and someone in Glasgow. He remarks on Perkins' sojourn in Ireland to be followed by Scotland. He comments on the letter from Bliss about the Bulgarian movements and writes regarding the prohibitions on printing and circulation of controversial tracts in Constantinople, mentioning Russian and French officials and the Turkish government. Breath discusses how this will help and not hinder his own "New Testament Scheme." The letter is on Turkish Missions Aid Society stationary.

He writes regarding the opinions of natives on the matter and shares that Mar Elis says he is willing to go to Tabreez and receive punishment in his stead. Breath notes that the Khan is still lingering and sent this morning for Priest Yohanan's horse. Breath relays the message received from the Khan, gives a message to Perkins for Miss Myers, and says the information in relation to Priest Eshoo is incorrect.

He writes regarding Mr. Washburn of Constantinople who will carry this letter, mentioning Dr. Hamlin and Lord Shaftesbury as well. Birch also writes about the conflicts in the United States (the Civil War), saying that he shares Perkins' opinion on slavery. He discusses the current state and finances of the Society (the Turkish Missions Aid Society) and the kind present of the book by Perkins.
