The transcription is part of the collection of transcriptions of Dickinson's poems produced by Mabel Loomis Todd for publication in a volume edited by her. Most transcriptions are in Todd’s own hand; some are typed, and some were transcribed by other individuals. A penciled notation is written on the transcription. The line "As subtle as conviction" is written on the reverse side and crossed off. Beginning with the program for the first Commencement in August 1822, commencement programs contain the order of exercises for commencement ceremonies. Since 1826, most programs also provide a list of candidates receiving their bachelor of arts degrees. Other information contained in programs has varied over the years. Amherst College Commencement program, 1983 May 29 Edward Hitchcock, Jr., Appendix A "Bones of Megadactylus Polyzelus" Hitchcock, Edward, 1828-1911 An appendix to Edward Hitchcock's "Supplement to the Ichnology of New England" by Edward Hitchcock, Jr. This appendix disusses bones described on the 187th page of Hitchcock's report on the Ichnology of New England. Hitchcock, Jr. explains the interpretations of Professor Richard Owen (from the British Museum in London) and Professor Jeffries Wyman regarding the bones and what name should be given to the species. This appendix expands upon the species "Exocampe minima" which is referenced on page 11 of the supplement. C. H. Hitchcock explains that the description in the supplement is not detailed, but he has had the opportunity to observe a slab of rock with this species' footprints on it. This appendix catalogs the Ichnological Cabinet at Amherst College, giving the number of the specimen, the kind of stone, the size, the names and peculiar features of the ichnites, notes about other objects on the slabs, the history the slab and the date it was taken into the cabinet, its locality, and references to where in the "Ichnology of New England" (C. H. Hitchcock refers to it as the "Ichnology of Massachusetts") and its supplement the specimen is mentioned. Charles H.
