W.S. Tyler letter to Justin Perkins in which Tyler explains his delay in responding due to working on "Representative Cities" in Hours at Home and his double duties at the College as Professor of Greek and Walker Instructor in Latin in the stead of his son Henry. He writes about Henry and these duties. He mentions another son (John), who is at the Grande Ligne mission, and Madame Feller. Tyler thanks Perkins' for the responses to his interpretations of the "hard passage" about "the angels" and of "women speaking in meeting." He expresses his views on the latter topic and on the "alarming tendency in our age & country to efface the natural and desirable boundaries between the two sexes." He discusses Perkins' commentary on Genesis and goes on to write regarding Amherst College, a new building in Amherst, and local churches. He says he is sending the (College) Catalogue and Dr. Boardman's address at the last anniversary of Mount Holyoke Seminary, which no longer accompany this letter.

A.M.D. Tyler letter to Justin Perkins in which Tyler writes regarding Mrs. Perkins (Charlotte Bass Perkins). She notes her general health and writes about how Mrs. Perkins spends her time. She says that the Ladies (in the Asylum) would always find her a pleasant companion if it were not for her presentation on religious subjects in an unreasonable manner. Tyler discusses Mrs. Perkins' Christian life and how she wanted Tyler to infer that her leaving the Mission affected it. She also notes that Mrs. Perkins has never asked her if she saw Mr. Perkins there. After Mrs. Tyler's portion of the letter, John E. Tyler also provides brief updates on Mrs. Perkins' status.

He remarks on his own health and labors and notes the new volume by Perkins on the Nestorian Missions issued by the Am. Tr. Soc. (American Tract Society). Tyler writes regarding "Plutarch 'De Sera Numinus Vindicta'" and The Theology of Greek Poets. He shares his views that all literature, science, and history illustrates the Bible. He writes regarding current Bible scholarship, discussing several authors, books, scholars, and the value of American and English scholars taught in German. Tyler goes on to answer Perkins' local questions about the change in location of the village church, the "Colored Sunday school," the current state of the old (Amherst) Academy building, and Amherst College faculty changes.

E.E. Thompson letter to Justin Perkins in which Thompson says that since they last sat in the same parlor in Liverpool, there has been a wide gap placed between them. She writes about longing to go back to Oroomiah (Urmia) and how she could help Miss Rice and be useful there. She discusses needing to have faith in God and says she will try to be content and even happy wherever the Savior should lead her. She prays that Perkins will never feel lonely and will have much work to do (at the Nestorian Mission).

Timothy A. Taylor letter to Justin Perkins in which Taylor says that in calling at Professor Fiske's on his way from Andover to his native town, he heard from Perkins and Mrs. P. He reminds Perkins that he was one of his pupils at Amherst College and remarks on Perkins' situation, saying "to live for God - how delightful!"

E. Torrey letter to Charlotte Bass Perkins in which Torrey reminds Perkins that she and her husband promised them that they should have the pleasure of their company this summer. She expresses their love for the cause Perkins has espoused and requests that she come with her little babe and husband. She says Dr. Torrey joins her in this invitation. In a postscript, she mentions that the latest news from Dr. Grant was March 14, 1842 in Mosul.

He goes on to note the start of the new year at Amherst College and writes regarding student enrollment at Amherst College, the growth of other New England colleges, and the growth of the town of Amherst with several new buildings. He also writes about an article titled "High Churchism against the Bible" in the N.Y. Observer with a review of a sermon by Dr. Parker of the Episcopal Church. In closing, he mentions that Dr. E. Hitchcock lost another child.

He discusses the feeling of disappointment to which Perkins' alluded in regards to Enfield, mentioning the Woodses. He writes about what might become of the Missions of their American Societies during the war, the defeat of General Hooker, and information about the war from his son. He goes on to write regarding Amherst, Amherst College, and the upcoming marriage of Miss Hinsdale to the village pastor. He shares news of the poor health of Dr. and Mrs. Hitchcock.

S.B. Treat letter to Justin Perkins in which Treat explains his delay in getting to see Mrs. P. (Charlotte Bass Perkins) and writes about his visit with Dr. Tyler and then her yesterday. He notes that she was moved to another part (of the Asylum) after some troubles in the matter of her singing in church and annoying other ladies. He provides updates on her health and writes about Mrs. P.'s opinions of her husband, saying that she questions his piety and fitness to be a missionary. He also discusses Dr. Tyler's feelings about how often he should visit and if Mr. Shedd can visit. He provides his opinion that such a retreat is the best place for Mrs. P.

M.D. Taliatine letter to Justin Perkins in which Taliatine writes from Ashan. He notes that he sent furniture down while at Sheeshavan and writes regarding difficulties with the Prince, including between the Prince and his head wife and between himself and the Prince. He references a letter from the Prince to him and his responding note, both of which he says he is sending along. After describing the difficulties, Taliatine explains that he was ready to leave the Prince's service but was then made fearful upon hearing that the Prince intended him to force him to render his Dagger. He writes about the interest the Prince owes, mentioning A. Nisbet and hadji Chasem. He asks Perkins' opinion on whether or not he should go to Ormiah (Urmia) with the Prince this month as the consequences of him telling the Armenian gentlemen there the truth or not are both undesirable. The note and letter referenced no longer accompany this item.

I. Tracy letter to Justin Perkins in which Tracy writes regarding the prospects of the mission (in Singapore), their mission school, and the makeup of the population there. He also notes the size of their missionary circle, where they live, and that they have a three year-old son. He responds to Perkins' inquiry about dispensaries. He says he has long since given up all attention to medicine to focus on the object of acquiring language and helping others do it, and he writes further about his work. The letter is addressed to Perkins, care of E.A. Webster in Bombay.

Thos. M. Taylor letter to Justin Perkins in which Taylor responds to a letter from Perkins. He writes about a prior donation and new donation (from Zion Church) for Perkins' mission. Taylor shares that they have much good being done there by means of Bible reading and women of the lowest orders going forth and telling of Jesus, whom they themselves have found. He also writes regarding the influence of the "missing link" of England (The Missing Link, or Bible Women in the Homes of the London Poor). He shares his own impression of the book and the effort it describes. He notes a visit from Mr. Harmond, additions to the churches there, and a visit from Dr. Wright. In closing, he remarks on Perkins' solitary return to Persia.

He remarks on her health, says that this visit was more pleasant than the prior, and references her opinion of Mr. Perkins and Dr. Bass. He also mentions Miss Fiske, Dr. Tyler, Mr. Shedd, and Henry. Treat goes on to write about (American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions) business and finances, mentioning Mr. Gordon, Dr. Anderson, and Mr. Wood. He briefly discusses the (American Civil) war. He also updates Perkins on the statuses of Dr. Anderson and Dr. Young.

He writes about his travels to the West and his impressions. He shares his negative impressions regarding the progress of religion and morals among the people as well as his encouraging impressions regarding protestant education, slavery falling in Kentucky, and a spiritual resurrection among the Germans in Pennsylvania. He mentions Edward Humphrey, Artemas Bullard, and Parker. He also writes of the revival in Sunderland, mentioning S.B. Ingram, and of the death of the Rev. Hunt of N. Parish.

She says that "the Doctor hopes the excitement is over and she will be willing to do as he wishes, that is use self control and not indulge in actual scolding and other signs of ill temper." She writes about how their patients (in the Asylum) have needs like children in regards to self-control and about Mrs. Perkins not being able to see why under some circumstances religious subjects ought not to be mentioned and a cheerful story might be better than a religious book for other patients. She mentions Miss Dana going to another part of the house.

She says that she will be absent for a few weeks as she is leaving for Ohio and writes about her last visit with Mrs. Perkins, Mrs. Perkins' companion Miss Dana, Mrs. Perkins' attendants, and the nurses (at the Asylum). She notes that Mrs. Perkins received a package. In a postscript, J.E.T. (John E. Tyler) provides a brief update on Mrs. Perkins, saying that she "has her good days and her bad ones."

T.A. Taylor letter to Justin Perkins in which Taylor writes about his interest in Perkins' station in Oroomiah (Urmia) and the account of Dr. Wright's tour of the mountains. He says he often thought of Perkins in connection with the ravages of Cholera and remembers the days of it in the United States. Taylor writes regarding revivals, his church (Slatersville Congregational Church), its Sabbath School, and his work therein. He notes that he left copies of the new edition of "Zion," which he dedicated to Perkins, at the missionary rooms to be forwarded to him. He writes about other recent works he published, the death of Perkins' mother, his own mother, his siblings, and his deceased father. He mentions Mrs. P., Miss Fisk (Fiske), Mr. Peabody, and Mr. Bliss.

He remarks on Perkins' account of the prospects of religion in the eastern part of the state and writes about the honor they have of living in a time, "when Christ is riding forth in the chariot of his gospel." He agrees that something should be done to increase the standard of piety in college. Thompson also shares updates from his area and situation, noting the upcoming ordination of Daniel Crosby, his residence in a school, and his health. He mentions Hyde visiting the school and the revival in Hadley, and he says he has studied about as much as Perkins has.
