He sympathizes with Perkins about his wife's health and trouble in his missionary field. He mentions Mr. Jones of the Turkish Mission (Turkish Missions' Aid Society). Woodfall writes about money in England collected for religious purposes and about his recent visit to Mr. Nisbet. He shares his opinions about the Persians and the Irish. He also mentions Dr. and Mrs. Riach and Mr. Abbott and family, compares the weather of England and Persia, and remarks on the Danish Question. In a postscript, he mentions Major DuPerier and Colonel Salmon.

He says that he has commissioned his brother, S.D. Smith, to purchase it and also asked him to call on Mr. Gordon to ascertain if Perkins can take it. He shares that his father (Leonard Woods) is not well.

Elizabeth Wheelwright letter to Justin Perkins in which Wheelwright responds to letters from Perkins. She mentions Perkins' friends there, including Mrs. Emery and Mrs. Banister, and local interest in missionary labor. She writes about Miss Rice and Miss Fiske. Wheelwright notes that she took the opportunity of Elizabeth Dana sending a parcel to her sister Jana Dana (in the Asylum) to send Mrs. Perkins something. In closing she says when a package is to go.

Geo. Woodfall letter to Justin Perkins in which Woodfall responds to a letter from Perkins. He says he was not aware Perkins had a Syriac monthly paper and responds to the news of several converted ones (Nestorians) who were young when he resided at Oroomiah (Urmia). He also remarks on Perkins' domestic trial and what Perkins shared about his missionary work. Woodfall writes about his wife suffering from rheumatism. He mentions Dr. Riach and his family and shares how Perkins can contact him and Riach. He also briefly comments on Mrs. Perkins' health and their separation.

Wolters letter to Justin Perkins in which Wolters explains that he delayed responding to Perkins invitation to come to Ooroomiah (Urmia) to work with him until he heard an answer from "our Society" (Basel Evangelical Missionary Society) about his destination. He says that if he had not had doubts that Perkins' Society would employ him as a missionary, he would have gladly joined him. He goes on to share the news that the Church Missionary Society in London has received him under their patronage and he is to go to Syra in Greece to work with Rev. Mr. Hildner. He writes about his plans for when he may leave Persia and notes the departures of other German missionaries.

Geo. Woodfall letter to Justin Perkins in which Woodfall says that Hafiz Pasha was defeated by Ibrahim Pasha, the Koords (Kurds) are out plundering, and Ibrahim is advancing into Turkish Territory. He mentions Mr. Ainsworth and says he fears these disturbances will prevent Dr. Grant from his tour. He notes that they are quiet there (in Baghdad). Woodfall shares news from India and asks Perkins to retain his present from the Society. He mentions Colonel Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Nesbit, and Mr. Lynch. He also remarks on the weather, Dr. Grant leaving the region, and the marriage of Mr. Merrick. He says that he is afraid the (British) officers will not return to Persia at present. Woodfall mentions one of Perkins' pupils turning unto the Lord, one young Armenian man there (in Baghdad), and the Report of the Board of Foreign Missions.

George Washburn letter to Justin Perkins in which Washburn shares that he learned from a telegraph that there is money on the way from England for Perkins to be used for the benefit of the famine stricken Nestorians. He says that they are pained Perkins has to return alone to Persia and that his own home will always have a room for Henry (Perkins). He also notes that his father will charge himself with the care of Henry's wardrobe. Woods writes that should they see Perkins again before he sails they will take the opportunity to send to Elizabeth (Edwards Woods Labaree).

He sympathizes with Perkins regarding his loneliness and the breaking up of his family circle. He shares brief updates on the mission in Constantinople and writes about his visits to England, Scotland, and Ireland, mentioning multiple individuals. He also notes what was said and not said by Lord Shaftesbury in regards to the (American Civil) War and notes the death of Sir Culling Eardley.

Eliz. Wheelwright letter to Justin Perkins in which Wheelwright notes letters from Perkins and other missionaries. She says that this letter is going along with a box and writes further about boxes they have sent and plan to send and books for packages. Miss and Mrs. Banister are mentioned several times. Wheelwright responds to what Perkins said about the two girls who came from a great distance to the Seminary, mentions Miss Rankin, and notes that her brother is going on with the Rail Road though the war with Paraguay has caused difficulty. After the letter are three loose pages that pertain to the contents of a box, presumably the one that also contained this letter.

He writes about her (Elizabeth Sherwood Woodfall's) health and cheerfulness despite her suffering. He also remarks on his own health; says they have many Christian friends, families, and ministers there; and shares the current age range of his children. He mentions Mr. Heugh and hearing from Riach that Perkins may leave Persia. He hopes that should Perkins return through England they will meet. Woodfall also remarks on Perkins' work among the Nestorians and shares that Nisbet has lost his wife and daughter.

Woodfall letter to Justin Perkins in which Woodfall writes that he had a pleasant journey to Tabreez (Tabriz), Sergeant Clarendon arrived yesterday, and he delivered the articles Perkins sent to Dr. Riach. He shares that he and Riach arranged to meet twice a week for religious discussion and writes about their friendship. Woodfall says that Major Cameron is expected shortly, he has sent Hajji Baba newspapers for their whole party, Mr. Braham returned there, and Mr. Nesbitt's sister is expected. He hopes Mrs. Perkins and the child are well.

W.F. Williams letter presumably to Justin Perkins in which Williams acknowledges receipt of a letter and says the children are glad to have a photograph of the Patriarch of the Nestorian Mission. He notes that they enclose one of "paper.'" He goes on to say that he wrote bro. Cochrane fully about this scholar and he feels their leaving their field of labor and coming up here was an unjustifiable expense. Williams shares his view that the "work of evangelizing these regions looks darker every year." He also shares their prayers for the United States for repentance, humility, and the rooting out of slavery. In closing, he briefly mentions the new persecuting firman.

Aug. Walker letter to Justin Perkins in which Walker welcomes Perkins back to his loved labor and expresses his regrets that he did not write to Perkins suggesting he visit them. He references Perkins' visit to Auburndale and says that they are sad of Perkins' loneliness. He comments on news relating to other missionaries, including Mr. Breath, Mr. Dwight, Mr. Riggs, and Mr. and Mrs. Williams and their son. He responds to how Perkins felt about his stay in America, mentioning Mr. Lindley. Walker writes about his own plans for when to go to America and when his wife may go. He notes the blessing of missionaries having parents still alive and asks if it can be right to make such a blessing an excuse to run away from work. He mentions his twin sisters and goes on to discuss "that Mekhill of Mosul."

He thanks Perkins for the particulars about Syra and expresses anxiety about the Greek clergy and a Roman Catholic King perhaps not being favorable to Protestant missionary efforts. He mentions their experiences in Russia and writes about a commission to investigate the political state of Georgia and other provinces. He notes that should their Mission at Shooshee be re-established he would go there rather than Syra. Wolters also provides updates relating to Haas, Hoernle, and Schneider, including the death of Haas' son Eugen. He mentions the trials of the Dwights' family. He requests Perkins' give him remarks on the natural state of Syra.

P. Williston letter to Justin Perkins in which Williston responds to a letter from Perkins. He says reports circulating made him fear that prospects in Persia were becoming less and less promising, but then Perkins' letter arrived noting that he is once more pursuing his labors with brighter prospects than ever. He discusses the difficulties missionaries face, including the influence of the Romanists (Roman Catholics) and Puseyites. He goes on share updates about members of Perkins' family and local church and clergy news. He also notes the loss of "the desire of mine eyes" and his only brother.

Langdon S. Ward letter to Justin Perkins in which Ward writes as Acting Treasurer (of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions). He says he encloses, as Perkins requested, his check for $100. He comments on Perkins' gradual improvement in health and that he has the ministrations of his wife and son in his feebleness. In a postscript he says he is sorry Perkins can't go to Pittsburgh to the Annual Meeting.

Geo. Woodfall letter to Justin Perkins in which Woodfall responds to letters from Perkins to him and Dr. R. (Riach). He writes that he is sending a donation for their Society via Dr. Grant, and he asks Perkins to forward it. He also mentions Mr. Abbott, Mr. Merrick, and Mr. Munger and remarks on "the Life of 'John Newton.'"He shares that he has been suffering weak eyes lately. Woodfall goes on to note no news from the King's Camp and mention the music from Mrs. Grant. At a later date, he writes further about the benefit of Merrick being there, notes the insurrection in Canada, and shares that they have heard from Herat, mentioning the Shah. He says he is returning to Perkins "'Oberlin' - lectures to young men - & Abbott's Family at Home."
