Bela B. Edwards, Trustee of Amherst College, letter to College President Edward Hitchcock in which Edwards writes regarding his objections to the proposal that the new library building be erected immediately south of South College. He states that Mr. Williston may have informed Hitchcock of a letter Edwards had sent Williston with his objections. Edwards lists five objections he has to the proposed site for the library including aesthetic taste, safety, accessibility (especially for women), and the sake of future generations. In his fifth objection he writes again regarding aesthetics and concludes that the matter of taste is where the College is weakest and needs to be strengthened.

A sermon by Edward Hitchcock on sins of commission and omission. The line "And the publican standing afar off would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast saying God be merciful to me a sinner," from Luke 18:13 is quoted. Hitchcock warns the congregation that men so often compare themselves to other men when determining their goodness, rather than comparing themselves to God. He states that they therefore remain unaware of many of their sins because they are not comparing themselves to the "law of God." A sermon by Edward Hitchcock on the divinity of Jesus Christ. The line "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God," from John 1:1 is quoted. Hitchcock emphasizes that those who approach the Bible with doubt are in the wrong because the concepts in it can often be too complex for humans to understand. He goes on to discuss many passages within the Bible which attest to Jesus Christ's divinity. Hitchcock notes on the front page that he delivered this sermon at Conway in December 1820 as well as Bible chapters and hymns related to the sermon.
