The article provides a description of the January 26, 1825 speech made by Mr. Mason in the House of Representatives on the petition for charter of the Amherst Collegiate Institution made by the Trustees of the Amherst Collegiate Institution. Mason argues against granting charter and mentions a fifty thousand dollar fund (the Charity Fund), Yale College, and Williams College in his speech.
