Zephaniah Swift Moore letter to the preceptors and Prudential Committee of Amherst Academy in which Moore writes on behalf of the faculty of the Collegiate Institution of Amherst regarding incidents of inappropriate behavior by Amherst Academy students on the grounds of the Collegiate Institution. Moore provides details regarding the inappropriate behavior which included drinking alcohol to excess, indecent and riotous behavior in and about the Collegiate Institution, and playing cards. He states that the faculty of the institution wanted to inform the preceptors and Prudential Committee of this behavior. He also states that the faculty of the Institution are united in their opinion that members of the Academy should not be in any room of the Institution after nine o'clock in the evening. The Amherst Academy students Moore discusses are Henry Hay, Edward Southworth, Charles W. Jenks, William H. Heath, Artemas Thompson, Charles H. Stedman, Joel Hamilton, and William G. Webster. Collegiate Institution students Dickinson (presumably Edward Dickinson or Appleton Dickinson) and Gray (presumably Philander Gray) are also described as being involved in the incidents.
