Botany lecture notes by Edward Hitchcock discussing specific families, genera, and species of plants, along with descriptions of these plants, where they grow or are cultivated, and their uses. Some of the plants considered are palms, cypresses, and pines. Hitchcock additionally discusses the life of botanist Joseph Dombey in depth, and lists other distinguished botanists along with some information about their lives and works.

Lecture notes by Edward Hitchcock on botany. Hitchcock discusses the plant anatomy, plant reproduction, plant classification, the geography of plants, things that affect plant health and growth, and poisonous plants. He includes a few pages of notes on [John] Lindley's "An Introduction to Botany" and discusses the Linnaean taxonomy system in depth. Interspersed throughout Hitchcock has made notes to himself to dissect or show different types of plants to demonstrate what he is presenting or to show classroom drawings.
