Cozzens notes that Dr. Labaree takes excellent care of Henry and remarks on the deaths of several individuals: Reverend Parsons Cooke, Dr. (Edward) Hitchcock, and someone with an illegible name. He goes on to write regarding his family, mentioning Samuel, Charlotte, Pennie (Penelope), and Hannah.

Cozzens leaves the letter unsigned, and S.W.C. (Samuel Woodworth Cozzens) writes a closing paragraph explaining that his dear Abby asked him to finish as she was confined this morning with a daughter whom they will name Charlotte. Sarah Bass (later Crehore) has also written a message to Charlotte Perkins in the margins of the letter.
