She also reports on a dispute between Edward's brother Charlie and Hagar [presumably Charlie's colleague and fellow assistant state geologist of Vermont, Albert Hager, also spelled Hagar], and the senior Edward Hitchcock's plans to attempt a reconciliation between the two. Orra also writes of her expectation that Edward attend the upcoming Amherst College commencement. Orra White Hitchcock letter to Edward Hitchcock, Jr., 1858 July 20 Edward Hitchcock letter to the editor of the Freeman, 1859 September 17 Hitchcock, Edward, 1793-1864 A manuscript copy of a letter from Edward Hitchcock to the editor of the Freeman, not in Hitchcock's hand. The letter requests corrections to a piece by Hitchcock published in the September 15, 1859 issue of the Freeman about a frozen well in Brandon, Vermont. The issue omitted a sentence giving credit to A.D. Hager (Albert D. Hager, state geologist of Vermont), and Hitchcock demands it be inserted back in and describes how Hager's theory and his own research into this theory came about.
