  • The weekly telegram, 1894 March 10

The March 10, 1894 issue of "The Weekly Telegram," a Nelson brothers' periodical describing news and events from their fictional world, presented in a two-column format. The front page indicates the issue was "published by Telegram Publishing Co.," one of several fictitious Nelson brothers' enterprises. This issue opens with an account of the loss of one hundred United Division soldiers in battle. For the next piece, the reporters have rounded up statistics on tapped maple trees in the area. The detailed report totals the amount of tapped trees to eighteen million and wonders when it will be time for maple syrup. Following these stories, there is a substantial section of world news bits covering a range of topics including agriculture, economic development and the military. Of note is a detailed portrait of William Little, a popular character in the writings of the Nelson brothers. The paper ends with the musical score of a new marching song.
