Mead writes of everyone's very high opinion of Henry (Perkins), of his special bond with Eddie Mead, and of the care he showed to his mother (Charlotte Bass Perkins). Mead expresses sympathy and admiration for Charlotte's "grappling with insanity." In addition, Mead shares news of her own children and shares her fears for James who was serving in the army. Mead also shares news about her children including her son James who was fighting in the war and notes that the war seems to grow desperate every day. In addition, Mead asks if Perkins has received an album of pictures and letters from James and says she is glad Perkins letters are so cheerful even though she knows he is sad.
