Elias Riggs letter to Justin Perkins in which Riggs writes that he is improving in health; his family has returned in safety; and, at last account, Emma (Riggs) appeared to be gaining somewhat. He writes further of Emma's health. He goes on to write regarding their stay in Egypt and the United Presbyterian Mission, its schools, its congregation, and books sold. Riggs writes of his trips to other missions in Turkey. He shares details and news of missions in central and eastern Turkey.

Elias Riggs letter to Justin Perkins in which Riggs says that "having joined the fraternity of bearded men, I have lately had a new photograph taken," a copy of which he is enclosing. He writes that he is now alone as Mrs. Riggs left for the United States to accompany their sons James and Charles who are going to pursue their studies. He writes further on that topic, providing updates on their other son Edward as well. Riggs notes when they left and that Clara Hamlin, Brother Parsons' two daughters, and Miss Proctor left with them. He says that he is boarding with Mr. and Mrs. Baldwin and that he anticipates Dr. Pratt leaving, mentioning Mr. Trowbridge. Riggs writes about their recent annual meeting and his current work on the Bulgarian Scripture and the Armenian and Armeno-Turkish translations. The enclosure noted no longer accompanies this letter.

J. Peabody letter to Justin Perkins in which Peabody explains his delay in responding and writes regarding the Annual Meeting of their Mission. He describes how delightful it was to be with missionary brethren and Armenian brethren and notes the increase in Constantinople in the number of Armenian attendees to services. Peabody goes on to write regarding his visits to Nicomedia (İzmit) and Ada Bazar (Adapazarı) with Mr. Wood for the purpose of organizing churches. He also mentions Mrs. P. interviewing several Armenian sisters in Nicomedia, the discouraging state of things at Broosa (Bursa), the foundation of the church at Trebizond (Trabzon), and the arrival of Mr. Brown. He says Mr. Brown has yet made his intended investigation "on account of the fear of the Pasha of exciting the Turks."

E.E. Bliss (Edwin E. Bliss) letter presumably to Justin Perkins in which Bliss responds to letters from Perkins. He writes of how he and Mrs. Bliss (Isabella Homes Porter Bliss) spent their anniversary reading from her journal, recalling the 1843 voyage on the Emma Isadora with the Perkins, the Bishop (Mar Yohannan), the Stoddards, Miss (Fidelia) Fiske, and Miss (Catherine) Myers. Bliss says that the Herricks, Mr. Trowbridge, and Mr. Pettibone joined them for their anniversary and discusses the celebrations further. He also writes of other missionaries in Turkey, including the Washburns, Riggs, and (Henry J.) Van Lennep, and of Protestant churches in Turkey. He mentions Dr. Richard Van Lennep.
