He notes that on Friday and Saturday these friends hunted on the plain and yesterday Mr. Thursby preached for them. Rhea also writes about the upcoming travels plans of the men, saying he thinks it is well they go by Julamerk. He briefly remarks on the men's previous visit to Oroomiah (Urmia).

Woodfall writes about money in England collected for religious purposes and about his recent visit to Mr. Nisbet. He shares his opinions about the Persians and the Irish. He also mentions Dr. and Mrs. Riach and Mr. Abbott and family, compares the weather of England and Persia, and remarks on the Danish Question. In a postscript, he mentions Major DuPerier and Colonel Salmon.

(presumably Francis Brown) Perkins letter to Justin Perkins in which Francis asks if it would be convenient for Justin to join them on a Sabbath next month to address the children of the Sabbath School and to preach the other service of the day on the subject of foreign missions. He notes that during the past year their Sabbath school has been organized into missionary societies for the purpose of supporting mission schools and says that contributions made during the service will go to the Am. Board (American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions).

S.D. Stoddard letter to Justin Perkins in which Stoddard writes that she often thinks of Perkins in his loneliness but she is sure that he is happy in laboring for Christ. She thanks Perkins for telling her about Seir and the sacred spot on the hill. She goes on to discuss her and Miss Fisk's (Fiske's) visit to Mrs. (Charlotte Bass) Perkins. Stoddard says that her impression of Mrs. Perkins' situation is on the whole pleasanter since the visit. She mentions Dr. Tyler. She discusses a visit from Mrs. Stocking as Emily (Stocking) had to leave school for her health and writes about the Seminary (Mount Holyoke) and religious spirit there. She also provides brief updates on her stepdaughter Sarah.

He says that he has commissioned his brother, S.D. Smith, to purchase it and also asked him to call on Mr. Gordon to ascertain if Perkins can take it. He shares that his father (Leonard Woods) is not well.

H. Southgate letter to Justin Perkins in which Southgate notes that Perkins does not need to feel obligated to write Southgate letters of equal length to his own. He writes about (Jacob) Samuel leaving for Georgia, Samuel's future prospects, Samuel's proposed visit to Ooroomiah (Urmia), and the paper regarding Samuel that has been sent to Captain Todd to go to India. Southgate provides his opinions on a possible school in Tabreez (Tabriz), stipends for pupils of mission schools, and missionaries going abroad for education (natives of another nation, especially Muslims, going to the U.S. for missionary training). He responds to information Perkins provided regarding the improving health of individuals, taxes, and the account of Hoernle and Scheider's adventure. Southgate discusses Taliatine, his hopes to leave for Tehran soon, and updates on other missionaries: Mr. Walters and family, Pfander, and Kreis. In the letter, Southgate writes that he sends Perkins a copy of the paper regarding Samuel, but it no longer accompanies this item.

A portion of a letter from Ellen Ranyard presumably to Justin Perkins in which Ranyard writes regarding a variety of topics, including her husband's (Benjamin Herbert Ranyard's) health, the influence of Romanism (Catholicism) amongst the higher classes in England and Irish servants in the United States, America's recent purchase of all of Russian America, what she sees as the steps of the Antichrist, her evangelizing amongst the "Romanist" (Catholic) servants in America, the last meeting of the Bible women, the Missing Link Magazine's reach, her contemplation of issuing a large print illustrated 2nd Book & its Story, and Bible women work in England and among the Nestorians. Lady Hope Grant, Mrs. Cole Black, Ellen Harper, Mrs. Shedd, and the Sisters of Mercy are all mentioned in the letter.

He goes to on to say that he will let Perkins know when he can get up to Seir to see to the stone cutter. He writes about the call from Latif yesterday, noting that Latif says he has not spoken against them or their work. Labaree also shares that Ali Naki Khan asks for another turkey, that Mar Yosip has made no reply to the letter from Botan, and that Labaree sent Odeshoo off with the letters. He discusses "another case of girl snatching by mussulmans" (Muslims) that occurred yesterday.

Joseph Reed letter to Justin Perkins in which Reed writes that by Colonel Sheil's permission, he sends to Perkins the only portion of the translated Holy writ which has reached their friend Robert Glen. He asks that Perkins return it when he no longer requires it. Reed says cholera appears to have left Tehran but he is sorry to note that it has raged at Bagdad (Baghdad) and Sheeraz (Shiraz) and re-appeared at Koom (Qom). He also notes the continued presence of small pox and fever in Tehran and the approach of fever to Perkins' district.

Charles Stoddard letter to Justin Perkins in which Stoddard responds to letters from Perkins. He shares his view that missionary work should principally have to do with the relations of men and God and little to do with other efforts at moral reform. Stoddard references the documents Perkins sent in response to misinformation from returned missionaries Messrs. Jones and Merrick. He writes regarding Merrick and assures Perkins that the Committee and officers of the Board (American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions) have full confidence in the Nestorian Mission. He also writes about his brother and sister-in-law (David Tappan and Harriette Briggs Stoddard) and current affairs in the United States: "the iniquitous project of annexing Texas as a slave territory," the controversy with Great Britain over Oregon, a lack of revivals, and Prof. Bush coming out as Swedenborgian.

Benj Labaree letter to Justin Perkins in which Labaree writes that Usta Khoda communicated with them from the Prince Governor to the effect that his Highness wanted them to be on friendlier terms. He says that his Highness' door keeper, Hassam Khan, later called. Labaree writes that they told him of their purpose to call and he is to inform them in the morning. He notes that Perkins will be proposed to make the call and he hopes Mr. Shedd will come also. He provides details on the location of the calling.

He notes that William's wife is unwell.

Wheelwright notes that she took the opportunity of Elizabeth Dana sending a parcel to her sister Jana Dana (in the Asylum) to send Mrs. Perkins something. In closing she says when a package is to go.

Alexander Nisbet letter to Justin Perkins in which Nisbet writes regarding mail that he has received from, is sending to, or is forwarding for Perkins. He says that he sent a copy of Perkins' letter to the (British) Envoy to inform him regarding the ill treatment Perkins received by the "three reprobate Mohammedans" (Muslims). He says he also informed Casam Meerza about them and the proceedings of the Beglerbey and the Mahasab. He relays Meerza's response to the information and the response of the Prince to the question of sending anyone with the prisoners. Nisbet shares news regarding the plague in Constantinople, Sir Charles Vaughan, and Mr. Churchill. He also asks Perkins to pass on a message to Dr. Grant.

Hugh H. Riach letter to Justin Perkins in which Riach writes that he now lives with his uncle, John Heugh. He shares that his stepmother (Sophia Riach) now lives in London and his grandmother and all his aunts have left Glasgow and now live in Manchester. He notes a visit from Dr. Thompson and says he is glad Perkins has pleasing recollections of his visit with them in Plymouth. Riach shares that one of Colonel Woodfall's daughters is staying with them and the rest of his family are coming. He also mentions the proposed dis-endowment of the Irish Church and the disputation it is likely to cause. In a postscript, he says he is forwarding the letter through Constantinople missionaries.

He also remarks on Perkins' domestic trial and what Perkins shared about his missionary work. Woodfall writes about his wife suffering from rheumatism. He mentions Dr. Riach and his family and shares how Perkins can contact him and Riach. He also briefly comments on Mrs. Perkins' health and their separation.

He notes that Colonel Considine, Captain Campbell, and Mr. Knight have left for Trebizond (Trabzon). He writes about changes in the Turkish Ministry, mentioning Ahmed Pasha, Tahir Pasha, Vassoff Effendi (the Sultan's secretary), and Temir Pasha. He also shares news of the poor health of the King of England, who will be succeeded by Princess Victoria. He remarks on the failures of America causing others in England. Zohrab notes festivities in England and France and writes about the weather and its effects on the plague in Constantinople and Trebizond. He also mentions cholera at Malta and Sicily and briefly remarks on the conflict between the Circassians and Russians.

Alexander Nisbet letter to Justin Perkins in which Nisbet notes Captain Sheil's current mission connected with the Ruwandooz affairs. He goes on to discuss the primary topic of his letter, the case of the Caldean (presumably Chaldean) girl who was taken from Urmia and who converted to Islam. Upper level individuals involved including the Ameer, the (British) Ambassador, Ismael Khan, Hajee Seid Hoossain, and Mustakeed Meerza Ahued are mentioned. Nisbet says that he and E. Burgess were assigned to go to the girl and hear her profession, and he describes the event in detail. He then discusses the response of the Caldeans to the girl professing to be a "Mussleman" (Muslim) and deciding not to return to her father and people. He the writes of his conversation with the Ameer and other ministers regarding the Caldeans saying they will leave Persia and go to Russia. Nisbet notes that the Ameer plans to write two firmans regarding their protection at his own suggestion. The Caldean "white beards" are mentioned several times in the letter.

M. S. Rice letter to Justin Perkins in which Rice writes about the spread of the news that they will return to Persia, mentioning Mr. Breath, Anna, Hormezd, and Judith. She discusses the loss of Mr. Thompson and grief of his widow. Rice says that at their Syriac Monthly Concert, Pera prayed for friends who had yet to hear. She also notes the deaths of several others: David in Malta, one of Deacon's sons, Martha's mother's widowed sister, and Yonan and his wife's son Justin and "their Ripka." She writes of visiting the graveyard in Ada. Rice addresses Charlotte Bass Perkins as "Dear sister," sharing what Hannah told her of Judith (Grant Perkins). She addresses Justin again, discussing the piety of Moressa of Superghan and her husband's drinking. She shares news of Priest Echoo's illness and remarks on Deacon Isaac preaching and teaching the women in Sabbath school. In closing, Rice asks them to make a farewell call to her mother.
