Silver medal commemorating the capture of Montreal, 1760

A silver medal issued to Jeffery Amherst to commemorate the capture of Montreal, Quebec in 1760. The face of the medal pictures a female figure of Montreal, seated mournfully at the foot of a pine tree. In front of her is a French shield with a fleur-de-lis and Native American weapons. Behind her, an eagle perches on a rock. Circling the face of the coin are the words: "Montreal Taken MDCCLX - Soc. Promoting Arts amd Commerce". The reverse of the medal contains a male figure, the River St. Lawrence, reclining, leaning against the prow of a ship. He is holding a paddle and a beaver walks over his legs. Above him is a standard bearing the name Amherst, circled by laurel leaves and surmounted by a lion. Beneath the man is a French shield and Native American weapons, lying on their side. Circling the reverse of the medal are the words: "The Conquest of Canada Compleated".
