He quotes Bible passages and shares their condolences for her in her bereavement. He asks that she also tender their heartfelt sympathies to Miss Hooper. He expresses his hopes that this event will be blessed to their church and Sabbath School scholars. Perkins says that they are deeply affected to know that the meeting during which William Reed died was for the object of aid to their mission. He notes that Mrs. P. would write but she is suffering from ophthalmy. Justin Perkins letter to Hannah Hooper Reed, 1837 Sepember 26 William Reed letter to Justin Perkins, 1836 January 2 Reed, William, 1776-1837 William Reed letter to Justin Perkins in which Reed acknowledges favors received from Perkins and writes regarding funds for missionaries, the local Christian community, missionaries to the Sandwich Islands, and anxiety over the approaching end of Mr. Cozzens' term. Following Reed's letter and at a later date, S.W. Cozzens (Samuel W. Cozzens) writes to Justin and Charlotte Bass Perkins regarding the death of Reed and says that Mrs. Reed and Miss Hooper donated to the Board (American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions) so that both Justin and Charlotte could be Honorary Members. He also writes regarding their future plans after his pastoral term in Marblehead. Cozzens mentions a letter from Mrs. C. that will accompany this letter, likely referring to a letter from Abby Cozzens in Box 1 Folder 1 of this collection. An unattributed note on the item provides details regarding the Cozzenses. William Reed letter to Justin Perkins, 1836 January 2 Abby Bass Cozzens letter to Justin and Charlotte Bass Perkins, 1837 March 5 Cozzens, Abby Bass Abby (Bass Cozzens) letter to Justin and Charlotte Bass Perkins in which Cozzens provides details on the death of the Honorable William Reed and says that Mrs. Tyler Reed (presumably Rebecca Blackley Reed) also died. She mentions Mrs. Tyler Reed's family members Rebecca, Mrs. Eastman, and Mrs. Woodbridge. Cozzens also writes regarding the children's Sabbath School, mentions Miss Hooper, and asks for information on the Nestorian Mission. She goes on to discuss her own family including her children Samuel and Charlotte, mention William (Bass), and remark that Susan Stowell is still staying with them. This letter likely originally accompanied a letter from William Reed and Samuel Woodworth Cozzens in Box 1 Folder 5 of this collection.
