She notes that Charlotte was pleased to see her, that she updated Charlotte on news of their friends, and that they talked of the bible and prayer. She shares their conversation regarding Mr. Richardson. Shedd says she has never seen Charlotte so happy "yet she bears the same marks of insanity as when she entered." She notes Charlotte's response to her asking if Henry's departure would cause her sorrow and writes positively of Dr. Tyler. She also writes about a call from Dr. Young, her own health, and her wandering son. She notes Charlotte's appetite, general health, excitement, and constant church attendance. She shares a story about Charlotte's loud singing in church. She also relays Mrs. Perkins' responses to Dr. Tyler asking how long since she entertained her present feelings in regard to her husband and how long since she spoke of it, noting that in answering the latter she unconsciously dated it back to the death of Judith (Grant Perkins). Shedd says she thinks Charlotte is happier there (at the asylum) than she would be elsewhere, mentions Henry (Perkins), notes that they have moved, shares that her brother expects to be married on the 20th, and says her class want their next contribution to go to Justin's mission. She goes on to write about her family circle, including Carrie, Ephie (Ephraim) and his wife, herself, her father, and Lyman. Shedd letter to Justin Perkins in which Shedd writes about letters Perkins' wife (Charlotte Bass Perkins) addressed to Dr. Tyler and the directors of the Asylum. She shares that in the one to Tyler, Charlotte requested he stop coming to her door every morning and said "she little realized what was to be her fate when she said so many times perhaps the Lord did not intend that she should return to Persia." Shedd also discusses Charlotte's letter to the directors which she notes was respectful, religious, and set forth her grievances and desire to be released.
