Volume "8 x 5 1/4 in." Number 1 of The Bat, a student magazine. In a section titled "The Cage," the editors state that the magazine is not intended to provide content relevant to "trite subjects of college interest" nor to "enter upon the field of literature" already filled by the present college press. Rather, its purpose is to allow "a healthy escape of steam," and only this one issue is to be published. Names of editors and some publication details provided on the title page are fictitious and presumably intended to be humorous. Entries in The Bat include short stories and poems which vary in tone from satirical to serious.

The April 20, 1938 issue of College Story Club, a literary magazine produced by the College Story Club, an organization of writers from Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, and Amherst College. The publication contains one short story by a representative from each of three schools. Though this issue states "published by-monthly," it is unknown if the magazine or the organization continued after this issue.

Experimental Magazine, a student-run literary magazine with twenty-five student works chosen for publication from one hundred and sixty-nine submissions. Prizes were awarded to the top three submissions included in the magazine. Experimental Magazine entries vary in form including poems, short stories, scripts, translations, a cartoon, and drawings. Entries also vary in mood from humorous to serious. The editorial board of this magazine included Greg Sletteland, Bruce Tsuchida, Bob Frank, Dave Burns, Dave Tannous, Doug Chessen, Dave Smith, and Jeff Tripp.
