Hitchcock claims that the world, Satan, and people's own hearts are the primary sources of danger, and outlines when people are most vulnerable to these dangers. He claims that it is when people are prospering that they are most at risk rather than when they are in a weak or doubtful state. Hitchcock then lists circumstances that endanger the souls of young people at literary institutions in particular, and questions whether people are aware of the danger their souls are in.
