Photographed are student protestors, including musicians, outside on the steps of Converse Hall. Several demonstrators have protest signs, and a banner in the background reads "Liberated." These photographs are assumed to have been taken by the College Photographer for the Office of Public Affairs (now the Office of Communications). Jim Gerhard was the College Photographer from the mid-1960s to 1971. La Causa is the established cultural, political, and service organization for students interested in Latino issues and culture awareness. This take-over of the Fayerweather Social Center led to the establishment of the José Martí Cultural Center in Keefe Campus Center. These photographs are assumed to have been taken by the College Photographer for the Office of Public Affairs (now the Office of Communications). Levey; police officers standing guard; and protesters handcuffed and leaving on a school bus. The photographs are taken at various locations including the Main Quadrangle (also known as the first-year quad), South Pleasant Street in front of College Hall and Morgan Hall, Amherst Town Common, and the intersection of Route 9 and Pleasant Street.
