W.S. Tyler letter to Justin Perkins in which Tyler says that he thinks Perkins must feel at home with his Nestorian children though his sorrowing heart cannot forget his wife and child. He discusses the feeling of disappointment to which Perkins' alluded in regards to Enfield, mentioning the Woodses. He writes about what might become of the Missions of their American Societies during the war, the defeat of General Hooker, and information about the war from his son. He goes on to write regarding Amherst, Amherst College, and the upcoming marriage of Miss Hinsdale to the village pastor. He shares news of the poor health of Dr. and Mrs. Hitchcock.

He provides other updates relating to Amherst College and discusses the excitements in town, including the Agricultural College and a new Episcopal Church. Rosecrans), General Thomas (George Henry Thomas), and "Rebel Bragg" (Braxton Bragg), the draft, and the Battle of Gettysburg are all mentioned. Among the individuals discussed are Geo, Charlie Underwood, and Aunt Mead (Julia Perkins Mead). This letter may have been written by Susan M. Lang Perkins.

Mary Brewster McClure letter to Justin Perkins reflecting on her faith, and sharing news of her children and other family members and notes she has hopes that the current strife has a glorious purpose and "might result in making this a great missionary country!" McClure comforts Perkins about his wife (Charlotte Bass Perkins) mentioning her heart is stirred by what Perkins shared and says she feels that Charlotte will be greatly improved by her sojourn at the asylum, noting the Summerville (Somerville) Asylum's good reputation and references God, Providence, and discusses her faith. McClure also references Henry (Perkins) and her feelings that his development into manhood and future will be affected by a parent with an unstable mind and relays news from a family member that Henry appeared well and had much improved.

He remarks on the news in the letters regarding "our national course" and the terrible riots in New York. He discusses news he has of the American Civil War as well, mentioning Fort Sumter, Morris Island, and the address to all Christians by the ministers of the confederacy. Bliss asks if Perkins has received the Bible yet and asks several other questions regarding it. He discusses the current state of his family and missionaries stationed at the Mission or who have visited.

Julia Perkins Mead letter to Justin Perkins in which she expresses happiness at receiving Perkins' letter announcing a safe return to his "Eastern home" in Persia the day before the end of his son's vacation and his return to Middlebury College. Mead writes of everyone's very high opinion of Henry (Perkins), of his special bond with Eddie Mead, and of the care he showed to his mother (Charlotte Bass Perkins). Mead expresses sympathy and admiration for Charlotte's "grappling with insanity." In addition, Mead shares news of her own children and shares her fears for James who was serving in the army.

(Julia Perkins) Mead letter to Justin Perkins in which Mead shares news of news of Henry (Perkins) who had spent his winter vacation with the Meads helping in the store, that Henry was studious but when he came "was thin of flesh" and that he looked very well when he left. Mead shares that she heard news from Henry about Perkins wife (Charlotte Bass Perkins) who was about the same. Mead also shares news about her children including her son James who was fighting in the war and notes that the war seems to grow desperate every day. In addition, Mead asks if Perkins has received an album of pictures and letters from James and says she is glad Perkins letters are so cheerful even though she knows he is sad.
