Abstract | Volume 3 Number 8 of The Amherst Collegiate Magazine. The magazine was a student-run literary journal that ran from October 1853-June 1862. It was published on a monthly basis during the academic terms, with some exceptions. Since the inception of the magazine, there were numerous title changes: The Amherst Collegiate Magazine (October 1853-August 1857); The Ichnolite (October 1857-July 1861); and The Amherst College Magazine (September 1861-June 1862). Throughout its run, the magazine remained a literary publication with entries in a variety of forms including essays, reviews, literary sketches, short stories, letters, poetry, editorials, and notices of current college-related events. Translations, musical scores, play scripts, drawings, and humorous entries were also occasionally included in issues. The editors of Volume 3 of The Amherst Collegiate Magazine were Edward Payson Goodwin, Thomas Peverly Herrick, Franklin Burroughs Norton, William Hayes Ward, and George Wakeman Wheeler. |
