Abstract | A transcription of four Emily Dickinson poems: "Further in summer than the birds," "To this world she returned," "Dying to be afraid of thee," and "They have a little odor." The transcription is part of the collection of transcriptions of Dickinson's poems produced by Mabel Loomis Todd for publication in a volume edited by her. Most transcriptions are in Todd’s own hand; some are typed, and some were transcribed by other individuals. The transcripts contain editor's marks and notations. At the top of the first page "Mrs. Vanderbilt" is written above the transcription and on the reverse side are several notes in pen and pencil that have been crossed out. The middle of the third page above the transcription of "To this world she returned" is a note about Mrs. Vanderbilt. These transcripts may relate to Dickinson's manuscripts in this collection; "Further in summer than the birds" (Amherst Manuscripts 66, 191, and 831), "Dying! To be afraid of thee" (Amherst Manuscript set 86), and "They have a little odor - that to me" (Amherst Manuscript fascicle 81). |
Notes | The transcription is undated. The date range is based on the year Emily Dickinson died and the year the third series of Poems by Emily Dickinson, edited by Mabel Loomis Todd, was published. |
