Title | Letter from unidentified correspondent to Justin Perkins, 1841 April 26 |
Dates | 1841-04-26 |
Abstract | A letter from an unidentified correspondent to Justin Perkins in which the sender relays an account of an earthquake in a village near Ararat (presumably near Mount Ararat, Turkey) in which it is indicated that the earthquake was a result of an Armenian priest intending to have a mock ceremony relating to the death of Hussein. He writes that Persians say that subsequently the Emperor of Russia forbade subjects to ridicule the Islamic faith. He goes on to discuss news regarding the Nestorian Mission and his upcoming journey, apologize for previous insulting correspondence, and thank Perkins and Mr. Breath (presumably Edward Breath) for the Nestorian tract. The signature on this document is illegible. |
