Abstract | W.F. Williams letter to Justin Perkins in which Williams remarks on his return to Mosul. He notes Perkins' line "I see that your spirits are rising." Williams says he thinks that is all in Perkins' spectacles and writes about people like Perkins and Mr. Marsh seeing the world in an ideal reflection rather than reality. He mentions his wife who often thinks that her short comings are the cause for Williams seeing the world as gloomy. He notes his own blessings but says that "this guilty world is the house of wretchedness and misery" and specifically mentions the corruption amongst the Turkish and Persian officials. He briefly notes that their Protestant company grows slowly there and remarks on the heavy load of the tax on people. |
