Abstract
W.S. Tyler letter to Justin Perkins in which Tyler writes regarding the death of Dr. Hitchcock, his "Reminiscences," what will become of his property, and his professorship. He mentions Hitchcock's children Jane, Emily, and Edward. Tyler shares that the Trustees are holding an extra session about finances, the endowment, and the Pastorate. He provides other updates relating to Amherst College and discusses the excitements in town, including the Agricultural College and a new Episcopal Church. Tyler also shares news about the American Civil War and politics. He briefly notes Brother Schneider's losses and Miss Fisks (Fiske's) death.
