Abstract
H. Smith letter to Justin Perkins in which Smith responds to a letter from Perkins. He remarks on news relating to the Nestorian Mission, mentioning Perkins' visit to the Shah and Mar Yohannan. He also writes about the dispute over Oregon, mentioning Sir Robert Peel, and about the antislavery movement in the United States. Smith continues at a later date and discusses several topics: the possibility that he may become Marietta College's president since Linsley has resigned; a recent visit by Dr. Scudder; seeing brother and sister Cozzens in Boston; updates on Mary, Abby, Agnes, and Jane Bates; his own family; and Linsley's family.
