Abstract | A. Steedman letter to Justin Perkins in which Steedman references the note from Perkins that he received via Dr. Young. He writes about Perkins' heavy trial, Dr. Young's stay with them, and local discussions on the oppression of the Nestorians. He mentions the (British) Minister's appeal to the court of Persia on the matter, Colonel Hughes, and two natives of Oroomiah (Urmia). Steedman also writes regarding the deaths of Sir Culling Eardley and (Peter) LaTrobe, looking forward to the afterlife, family prayers for Perkins, Steedman's daughter Marion, his son Andrew, his son Henry, and English sentiment regarding the American Civil War. He notes that Henry Ward Beecher is there in this last regard and says that he is sure no Englishman could desire the triumph of slavery. In closing he mentions Birch and hopes that he may long be spared to work for their missions aid (the Turkish Missions' Aid Society). |
