Title | Edward Hitchcock sermon notes, 1852 July 8 |
Dates | 1852-07-08 |
Abstract | Sermon notes by Edward Hitchcock for a sermon delivered at Amherst College on July 8, 1852, offering thoughts on how those who are sick, depressed, hopeless or facing outward evils such as poverty can follow the command in Philippians 4:4 to “rejoice in the Lord always.” Hitchcock suggests that Christians can rejoice in their sufferings by thinking of the rewards to come after they have passed through difficulty, and he additionally points out that the command is to rejoice in God, and lists the many attributes of God, his government, and his promises that are sources of joy. Hitchcock has written the number of a related hymn on the last page. |
