Dates | 1823-02 |
Abstract | Sermon notes by Edward Hitchcock examining Paul’s lamentation in Romans 7:24-25 and the contest between sin and holiness within the lives of Christians. Hitchcock discusses several reasons sin is hateful to Christians, how it is opposite in nature and in consequence to holiness, and how deliverance from the distressful conflict with sin can only come through Christ. He concludes by asking his listeners if they hate sin as Paul hated it, and to meditate on the blessedness of eventual deliverance. Hitchcock has noted on the final page that the sermons was "preached at Preparatory Lecture in Feb. 1823." |
