Abstract A notebook by Edward Hitchcock containing analyses of numerous soil samples taken throughout Massachusetts as part of his geological survey of the state. Each sample is numbered, and most have an entry listing its type, its collection location, its condition, a description of its makeup, and analytical tests performed upon the samples with the results. Some soils from outside of Massachusetts are included in the analysis as well.
