The only indication Silliman made of the date of the letter was to write "Aug" in the header. "[1832 Aug]" has since been written in pencil in the header. The envelope portion of the letter has been stamped with "AUG 3" by the postal office of New Haven.

Abstract
A letter to Edward Hitchcock in which Benjamin Silliman sends Hitchcock a receipt from [Sarah Doolittle], and explains the recent canvas of New Haven for funds for Yale College. Silliman also notes that he will be away for his daughter's wedding, and that he will work with the Massachusetts Governor to get a report by Hitchcock published.
