Title | Edward Hitchcock sermon no. 249, "Denying Christ," 1824 November 7 |
Dates | 1824-11-07 |
Abstract | A sermon by Edward Hitchcock discussing the ways in which Christians deny Christ. Hitchcock argues that in times of prosperity Christians are more likely to deny Christ because they do not have oppression motivating them to attend to their religious belief. He calls denial of Christ a disease and asks his hearers to consider if they have the symptoms of this disease, such as not relishing the sabbath service and prioritizing wordly things over the spiritual. Matthew 10:33 is quoted. Hitchcock has noted the dates and locations where he delivered this sermon as well as Bible chapters and hymns related to the sermon on the first page. |
