Abstract
An address delivered by Edward Hitchcock at the dedication of the State Geological Hall, Albany, New York, extracted from New York Senate Document 109. In the address Hitchcock reflects upon the history of geological surveys in the United States, giving special attention to the survey conducted in New York. Hitchcock also details the formation and development of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, claiming that the society's formation is a result of the New York geological survey.
