Abstract
A letter from Justin Perkins, a missionary in Persia, to Edward Hitchcock expressing his regret at Hitchcock's resignation as President of Amherst College. Perkins discusses his recently published anti-slavery sermon and its reception in the United States. Perkins expresses happiness that the marble slabs from Ninevah reached Hitchcock. Perkins informs Hitchcock that six of his seven children have died and invites Hitchcock to visit him in Persia. Perkins describes a Russian-Turkish battle from an account he received from a visiting London Daily News correspondent.
