Abstract | The Amherst Student is the college newspaper published by the students of Amherst College. The Student began publication on February 1, 1868 and is currently being published. From June 1943-August 1946, the Student suspended publication. During this time, two other newspapers were published to take the place of the Student; The Gazette of Amherst College (v.1) was published weekly by Amherst College from June 25, 1943-June 23, 1944; and, the Jeff (v.1-v.5) was published weekly by the students of Amherst College from June 30, 1944-May 28 1948. From 1877-1896 during summer school sessions, the Student was published weekly as: the Amherst Summer Student; and later as: the Summer School Student. During the Student’s publication history, numerous supplements and special issues have been published. Many supplements and special issues are called: Extra; and others have distinctive titles. Two supplements with distinctive titles published two or more times and which frequently carry the volume numbering of the Amherst Student are: the Amherst Student Review; and: View. Many issues also have incorrect volume, number and date errors or lack some of these elements. |
