Abstract | An account of expenses incurred by Edward Hitchcock while exploring the surface geology of Massachusetts between April 26, 1852 and June 22, 1859, for his "Illustrations of Surface Geology," including work done after the book was published. Nearly all of these pages at the beginning are crossed out. Hitchcock re-used the book by turning it upside down and starting at the back to record an account of expenses Amherst College incurred from building the Nineveh Gallery. Expenses include travel, meals, lodgings, bricks, stones, and payments to specific people, among others. |
